Description

Sipsey Wilderness, Bankhead National Forest. This was about mid day and the Sun was making the forest glow in spots. I wish the quality was better, I was using a borrowed camera.

Nice image. The problem with that kind of situation is the very wide range of brightness. The only good solution is to take at least two picts just of the same framing, on a tripod or with the camera firmly laid on some stable thing such as, here, a tree trunk, and use different exposure adjustments: you do one normally exposed exposure, one overexposed by 2 stops for the low lights and one underexposed of 2 stops for the highlights, then you make the integration of all these picture elements in Photoshop either using HDR or another technique. But your camera must be adjusted manually, or have some exposure corrector function to allow shifting from standard exposure to over and under-exposure. If your camera is only program-automatic you cannot do. By these times, one can find very affordable secondhand professional digital cameras, e.g. two weeks ago I bought a Canon G2 professional compact camera for only 60$, whereas its brand new price was around 1000 or 1500$ in 2002. BUT in that case you MUST avoid cameras manufactured between 2002 and 2004 because they had a series of CCD which after some time make the camera unusable (they no longer produce images); this could in most cases be taken into account for free by the after-sales service of the marque, but not always (especially by Minolta, because the Minolta marque died in 2006).

Borrowed camera or no, this is a GORGEOUS shot. I love the way the light falls on various surfaces, and the color is amazingly crisp. I happen to like greenery a lot, though I know precious little about plants. At any rate, this is a perfect image.

I like the way the light thrusts through here and there. This is a great shot,...and I would've done the same. Was this taken along a trail?, the area in the photo doesn't appear to have been stepped on for a long long time.
