Description

Again I ask, where is everybody? Captured 5/25/09, at the beautiful Los Angeles National Cemetery in beautiful West Los Angeles, California. More than 86,000 veterans, going back to the Civil War, are interred there. A ZOOM would be of utmost benefit. This begins a miniseries within the Memorial Day ceremonies series, featuring several reps from all walks and history of military life, some of which I wasn't able to identify. Coincidentally and ironically, and not really intended, this collage is a timely segue into Flag Day, which is observed today in the USA. It depicts representatives from all the services, Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard, etc., as they parade proudly and smartly by on their way to the grandstand. Not surprisingly, I had to elbow my way into a line of other photographers, including TV personnel, for these pictures, taken on a dour, overcast day. Tallyho.

These are awesome. I especially love the displays of all the different flags, from the different military organizations, my son in law to be is in the air force, I was just getting a package ready to send over to him, he won't be back home until October. I am wondering the meaning behind all the ribbons on the Army flag? And I am also thinking if anyone knows it would be you.. Fantastic work my friend.

They look so proud to be marching; as well they should be. Great job, Harry; did you consider selling some of your shots to the news organizations? Seems like they would be interested to me, these are wonderful.

As one of the American Legion Honor Guard here, and a participant in the Retirement of Colors ceremony, I just want to say thanks for posting this.

Hi Harry...sorry, couldn't show up yesterday. After two more aviation related museums on the 14th I ran out of time to do justice to all the great Rendo offerings. This is a fine capture. I am always amazed at the Army flag with all those battle streamers. That is one heavy flag to carry. It looks like the biggest guy is carrying it too.

amazing, because you captured the 'group photo' of all the branches beautifully, in different angles & close-ups. In a big line, it's a spectacle, a peacock's tail of color and pomp and of the gravity behind it all. Nice too that there are so many ethnicities there, w/ male and female too. As you get to the bottom shot, you have a shot of them looking down as if in humility of the task they represent. Very open & celebrative shots, with the dignity and gravity of what they represent. Beautiful work Harry, all around.
