Description

Still again I ask, where is everybody? Captured 5/25/09, at the beautiful Los Angeles National Cemetery in beautiful West Los Angeles, California. More than 86,000 veterans, going back to the Civil War, are interred there. A ZOOM would be of utmost benefit. Second in marching order was the United States Navy, the sailors in lock step, clad in their immaculate, impeccable whites. A cool looking quartet, indeed. Incidentally, although vast in area, the lawn should have been mowed previous to this event, because I don't know about the other attendees, but stepping through the tall grass was like walking through deep sand at the beach, offering no spring to my step, and it left me just plain tuckered out after treading the many cemetery acres in search of appropriate subject matter. Then again, maybe I'm just getting too old for this stuff. Tallyho.

More wonderful shots! I especially like the expression on the gentleman in the bottom shot. Well done.

Another stellar set of captures of this solemn event. Again, the servicepersons all look so proud to be involved...and yes, that bottom portrait is wonderful. More great work, Harry!

It appears most favor the bottom photo, but, because of the precision, I like the middle one equally as well.

Great collage, Harry... I like them all, but I especially like the top one ... nice to see the respect given to the flag by the gentleman holding his hand over his heart. :)

Oh, oh...don't know which one I like best. All are smashing. Bottom portrait allows us to concentrate on one personality doing his duty. Glad you let me get in on all of these! Happy Flag Day, one day late:)

well the bottom one appeals to everyone because it's so personal (and it's a beautiful portrait of concentration and devotion). But they're all wonderful Harry, and the middle one may be my favorite too because of the amazing music of the movements, the flow of the outfits (those pants are baggier than I remember from pictures), and of the flowing flags. It's a very flowing shot. Of course, you give us a progression once again, so we see them move from the gathering overall to the closeup, and all are vivid & stirring. I have to say, it's amazing the clarity you got considering the overcast quality of the day. (I assume in that kind of light, it's not easy to get clarity and vividness.) As for the tall grass, it's not all that visible from these large shots, but I know the experience of wading through high grass, and it is surprising no one cut it before hand. For one or two ceremonies a year, it would be nice, wouldn't it!. I fave this image for all three of the marching guards shots, it is a wonderful sub-series. Quite moving work.
