Description

When the power goes off in my neighborhood it REALLY is dark. Here's the power company getting the transformer problem fixed at about midnight last night. I've not cropped this so you can get a feeling of how pitch black it is when the street lights, etc. are off. The trucks were so colorful, I had to try my recently acquired camera out in the dark. This is hand held and on an Aperture Priority setting. First things first. The camera focused without difficulty. My previous camera would have had all sorts of trouble focusing under these conditions. ...got to do more night photography. Bill:)

A great night shot. All the black and in the center, the light and activity. I really like this photo.

Excellent Bill. Neat that you left so much black around the action.

This is a really cool, to take a pic of this...love the lights and 'feel' of the image. Very awesome...of course the title of your image brings back the old song "Still of the Night" by Whitesnake lol Keep taking the EXCELLENT pic's Bill! Were sure enjoying them! :-)

The neighbours may get suspicious if the lights keep going out and your there with your camera :) Got to say this has come out extremely well, given the low (no) light conditions.

Great capture and atmosphere. Sadly this is quite a common reality in our part of the world, far more general than localised. Enjoy the camera, Clive

This is most impressive indeed, you've captured the panicky moment that many must have been through !

The effect you were trying to achieve is perfectly realized, Bill. Adds a new meaning to the term 'painting with light', huh? ;-)

A zoom is imperative to capture the true essence of this fine night shot, Bill. It's really rich in lighting and texture. Otherwise, it looks like viewing through the reverse end of binoculars.

really enticing, Bill, and absolutely right that you kept the full night around it. (And you kept it in the center so we could feel how encroaching the dark is.) Imagine seeing this from 3000 B.C., stumbling upon it in the dark: You'd become a believer! Love when photographers give us these glimpses. It's a piece of everyday life, yet it seems from another planet. Wonderful capture, great you shared it.

Okay, Whitesnake, okay, Five Satins ... they pale in comparison to Cole Porter! "In the sill of the night, as I gaze from my window, at the moon in its flight, my thoughts all stray to you." I love metal, don't get me wrong - but that old Porter classic is ... well ... it's classic! I'm impressed as all getout with your new camera! If I'd taken that shot, it would be all red and blurry. You did a great job! Now I want to see that same scene on a normal night, with the streetlights on, and again during the day. You know ... in your spare time, and all. LOL! :D
