Description

Hi there. Today a portrait of that advantageous insect. Those jaws where made for biting for sure. A friend of mine, he's a beekeeper as a hobby, tells me that he watched hornets catching bees in flight. Then they bite off the head, the wings and the legs and bring the body to the nest. They are great predators. Hope you like her friendly face. Have all a great weekend. PS: Yesterday I bought a 60mm macro-lens - I will try to take a shot of the hornet with that new lens and post it in the next weeks. Stay tuned an be thanked for all the kind words and support here.

Best thing I have ever seen is a dead hornet with pins to confirm it is going nowhere; Been fighting them for years here at the house.

Nice closeup- it looks like this hornet is missing its right mandible? I saw a video of the infamous Japanese Hornets (which are HUGE) and it only took a few to completely decimate a nest of bees- I think they dispatched somewhere around 30,000 in 4 hours!
