Description
JS presented Eve as an interpreter to the SMs escorting them. Corporal M'buna, had attended a basic course for dropship pilots and acted as co-pilot. This way JS put the e-bot in the closet and gave a seat for Eve and his sniper, lance corporal O'Malley. They took off.
JS was a bit annoyed with Eve, so he decided to leave her alone, and to have a chat with O'Malley and M'buna. He wanted to feel out the lower ranks' mood, but pretty soon the talk degenarated into a lingo for initates on weapons, shooting, spaceports and GOD.
Eve felt cut off and concentrated on JS.
He looked very comfortable and relaxed as she had never seen him since she had saved his life. She realized that he usually walked on an unknown and slippery ground. Even a simple conversation forced him to concentrate to be understood, to transform into words, either uttered in a foreign language or in his own, alien concepts. She felt a little sad for him and decided not to put too much pressure on him. Then she let the rugged beauty of the NM landscape solace her. She had never seen it from above and some appreciative whistles, hisses and clicks escaped from her lush lips. The SMs stared at her.
There were no problems in the first ranches they visited. The same list of grievances and the same niceties. Going northwardly, however, people looked uneasy, and at the Rainbow Mountains the situation looked decidedly gloomier.
They arrived at the ranch were Eve had lived with her family only a few months, because she had been chosen by the old queen and taken away.
People welcomed them warmly, but when the first enthusiasm quietened, Eve's father told JS: "I'd like to show you something that happened last night. We can ride there slughback".
JS nodded and left at once with the old rancher. When they came back, JS told the others: "RATs. They slaughtered a herd and left a war trophy". and the general mood darkened considerably.
Eve's mother said "We haven't had a word from your cousins north of here since yesterday".
The following morning JS. Eve and the SMs left for the ranch of Eve's cousins.
"Smoke" M'buna warned them after a while.
JS nodded: "Consider yourselves in action. Eve stay pasted behind me, OK?".
Since I'm leaving for Canada with Sandra46, I'll have some trouble in looking at your galleries.
JS and Eve's adventures will be also delayed a bit.
I'll try to do my best.

Well you were apparently on your way to Canada after posting this, so...hope you had a great trip! (How's THAT for timely wishes?) And welcome back! It was only 2009, so I'm only 5 years late... Nice conflict-filled reports, intimations of rough encounters to come, stories of trespass and pain, loss, etc. Mixed with a nice moment with Eve pulling back on her strong pursuit to bring JS to her will. A tender moment. And nice reactions from the SM, real, true to life. This is an episode where reports are made of very bad things, but we don't see those things, we only hear of them: But that sets up expectations to find out more about them in the future. Nicely done. And when you end on JS's urging that Eve stay pasted behind him, we know we're entering dangerous territory. Nice way to end the episode, preparing us for a bracing next installment. (At first, btw, I thought "Since I'm leaving for Canada with Sandra46" was part of the TALE, and wondered who Sandra46 was---then I realized the episode was over, and you meant Sandra. That's good. First, Sandra's better off in Italia than in this spaceship; and second, I was a bit surprised to find the story shift to Canada. That would take some explaining...) The image is doused in saturated reds and deep peach tones, rust tones, etc: Immersed in a foreign landscape. And the feeling of smoke. When M'buna warns "Smoke," one thinks of the English expression, "where there's smoke, there's fire". So it's warning of something beyond smoke itself. The ship is rendered very clearly, and really nice details inside the ship---ie, through the big window: It's crowded in there, with several groupings, tensions, etc. But we get the feeling of peeking into a self-contained world: Nicely done. And you have the ship lined-up with the horizon too. Overall, the image is an open, ominous but beautiful landscape, reminiscent of the U.S. Southwest. All very nicely rendered; and again your image is a fine complement for your words. (Flavia, so you know about my slowness: I'm taking appr 30 minutes per image, so that'll explain why I comment on so few, compared to many others---it's taken up in close reading and viewing, then formulating words. Just so you know I put time into my handful of comments...)
