Description

This is along the 10 mile stretch of highway 131 south of Randle as I was attempting to reach Mount St. Helens from the north. The road was closed and I had to turn around. But I enjoyed the drive, no traffic, lots of moss-covered trees, diffused sunlight, and a very light rain. I was determined to make it to Mount St. Helens and came in from the west on highway 504. According to the Park Ranger at the Park Service building on Coldwater Ridge, they had just opened the main access road (highway 504) that leads to the Park Service buildings two days before the anniversary of 18 May. I was informed that there is no snow removal service contracted for the northern access road (highway 131), hence the 'closed due to construction' sign ten miles in. Fine pic. Snow stopped you several places then on this trip. I wonder how you'd know about road closings ahead of time. The park service might post that info on a website somewhere??? They need something like NOTAMs.

Hey, I know that car! :D It's very comfy. What a perfectly lovely place! I'm sure the entire road was relaxing and beautiful. I just love the sunlight coming through spring greenery, hightlighting the mosses. Gorgeous!
