Description

Boat on the river is sailing away Boat on the road is ........ Its monsoon now . A week ago when I took this shot the sea was very aggressive. And these men couldn't launch their boat. They think its worth taking the trouble. The season of sea is at the door. So they are taking it to the nearest harbour (10 km). Such a season of sea is locally called as 'CHAKARA'. Its the harvesting festival of fishermen. As a geographical phenomenon every year around this time after being aggressive for a period the sea calms down like a pond. And the sea shore gets muddy. The exact reason for this phenomen is not known. There are many speculations. The presence of the mud attracts fishes and it has become a breeding season too. Each year this phenomenon (chakara) takes place in diferent areas. Some years it changes whithin days. It creats big trouble for them. With chakara spots being the selling place too, they are forced to reach the same shore insted or their usual place some where near their house. Then they have to get home and next day early morning they have to reach the same place. So its realy a troble when this place keeps on changing. But, alas, that's when they make money to pay off a years debt. Wow, a Chakara is like a D-day with hundreds of boats reaching shore simultineously, the shore is only less than a bloody battle feild.

A superb photo with great narrative. I was in Mumbai (or Bombay in those days) when the monsoon broke, for me it was an amazing sight but then again I dont live there. It was many years ago !

And the small fish I see here? Are they trash or are they eaten. They are so small and seem hardly worth keeping. That boat is expertly moved and I imagine it is heavy! Stunning everyday life... so very different. I have great respect for the people's hardiness and patience.

Thank you for the recent comment on my gallery. Without that comment I may not have discovered your gallery. I have been looking at your pictures and enjoying seeing a country that I will probably never get to visit. You take very interesting pictures.
