Description

I don't know what to say about this object. I'm not even sure what it is. Is it one of Hugh Hefner's missing lawn ornaments? Could it be the petrified remains of the last-surviving KISS groupie? Perhaps it's a loving plaster tribute to Roger Daltry in drag? Or maybe it's just an eye-poppingly ugly piece of junk stuck into the front window of a second-hand furniture store? These and many other questions will not be answered in my next post. I can tell you that this "object d'art" (Isn't that French for "objectionable art?") was photographed on around the 6000th block of N. Broadway, in the Edgewater neighborhood of Chicago on May 30, 2009.

OK...Can't go there. Art is in the eye of the beholder. Nice reflections.

Oh my god, it's that! Um...yes...it's probably expensive too... Great commentary! I love the whole ambiance of this picture. It is so incredibly telling on so many levels and on a level, that's just a wee bit spooky. Art is, of course, whatever it is, but at the same time, this is a fantastic way to question such concepts as cultural aesthetics and various historical trends. Fantastic work.

Maybe the object of your disaffection is questionable as art, but this image is not. Definitely draws the view in. And there's so many other things to look at - even your reflection in the window.

Corey, this is a terrific photo. (I was gonna say "awesome," but since Chip goes in your gallery, I better not!) You got a melange of what's in the store, what's outside of it, and what's on the sheath between the two—ie, the window, with its own strange art: that sculpted street art "BACM" with its dripping pigment/water/whatever...that alone adds something indescribable to this photo-collage). It's just wonderful, Corey, because while that object—and lol on objet d'art—is the seeming focus, it takes on a whole new meaning in the context of the mania around it, ie, the urban collision and visual fury that surround it. I can't describe it, but it's almost a commentary...And then, there is art that is so irritating that it's good—you know what I mean? You have to congratulate the artist for having the guts to go that far. I think this is in that category...but it's the whole montage of light, reflection & concrete imagery that makes this sing. One of my favorite in your gallery so far; wonderful piece of seeing.

On a mannequin,....looks pretty good, but this same bikini on the body of a woman who could wear it well, would most defiantly be art!!! Roger Daltry in drag,..........need to get that out of my head now. Great eye for seeing what most of the rest of us would just pass by!
