Description

The old Stars and Bars! The South will rise again! Captured 5/25/09, at the beautiful Los Angeles National Cemetery in beautiful West Los Angeles, California. More than 86,000 veterans, going back to the Civil War, are interred there. A ZOOM is strongly recommended in this series. I especially admire the steely determination in the eyes of these Southern warriors, as if on a crusade, and the meticulous pointy mustache on the soldier to the left. General Robert E. Lee would swell with pride at this sight. I included a shot from the rear to show the equipment these ol' boys carried off to war. In the parlance of today, "they were packing heat." Incidentally, brass buttons were apparently de rigueur on uniforms of that era, whether they be Union or Confederate. Incidentally, again, thanks to the knowledgeable acumen of bopone, the exquisite automobile shown on my Father's Day upload is an Excaliber Series IV model. Google it for more info. Tallyho.

The chap on the far left could easily be a George W Bush look alike if he loses the mustache!!!! Great selection again Harry! :)

OMG, Carin, that is George W Bush, albeit a bit older! That mustache really fooled me!

I love to look over accoutrements on reenactors. I'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination but the worn nature of the gear being worn by the gent with the fancy mustache makes me think they may be originals. If so, they are quite valuable. You have quite a bunch of rebs out your way! The Union guys are just resting on their laurels believing the south will never rise again :-)

For some reason I'm getting a real kick out these older-style soldiers; there sure seems to be some steely determination in their eyes! Great chapter in your series, well done!

cool photos. Reminds me of the civil war re-enactment they have at Calico Ghost Town. You see the blue and the gray walking the streets at the same time ;)

yeah it's great to see these wonderful old uniforms, and you caught some fine off-the-cuff gestures and glances...While the left-most guy does look like Bush, the middle one looks a bit like Richard Dreyfus (lol, Lynell and I are at odds—I don't see Dustin Hoffman at all!). And the guy in the bottom shot, far right—looking 'at' us, with white shirt? Al Gore! Well, everyone sees things differently, lol...Anyway, you caught wonderful expressions, the natural flutter of the uniforms, those great hats, and all that gear from the back, which really hung there...Another fine capture Harry: I would never have known there was this much to share from a Memorial Day ceremony, but your series has made me look in ways I never did, for the rest of my life. And thanks to your fans who've contributed bits of info too. Love this series, all of it.
