History and Mythology: Achilles-Revenge História e Mitologia:Aquiles-Vingança The hero Achilles was the epic poem of Homer, The Iliad, which speaks of his feats in the Trojan War he was a great warrior but was also a man with flaws. The anger and hurt pride did reject the leadership of his men in battle; his friend Patroclus was in their place and died. With suffering and revenge, Achilles slew the Trojan warrior Hector, even knowing that this would lead to the death. Achilles was killed when the poisoned arrow of Paris, guided by Apollo, reached his vulnerable heel - the only part of his body that was not submerged by his mother in the river Styx, where he was a baby, to make him immortal. To the Greeks, Achilles symbolizes the hero, choosing the place of glory in life. O herói Aquiles protagoniza o poema épico de Homero, A Ilíada, que fala das suas proezas na Guerra de Tróia. Ele foi um grande guerreiro, mas também era um homem com defeitos. A raiva e o orgulho ferido o fizeram rejeitar a liderança de seus homens na batalha; seu amigo Patroclus foi em seu lugar e morreu. Com sofrimento e vingança, Aquiles matou o guerreiro troiano Hector, mesmo sabendo que isto o levaria à morte. Aquiles foi morto quando a flecha envenenada de Paris, guiada por Apolo, alcançou seu vulnerável calcanhar - a única parte do seu corpo que não foi submergida por sua mãe no rio Styx, quando ele era um bebê, para torná-lo imortal.
