Description

Hi there. Today the second shot of the adult Puss Moth - the "face". If you miss her antennas, look further. A shot with the antennas will come tomorrow. Jeff gave me an advice yesterday to use a macro-flash (ringflash). No chance to buy one the next time (about 200 Euro). My wife will kill me if I would buy one *g* Those shots where taken before I got the new flash. I used the internal flash of the cam and got some shadows from the lens. You could see a f-stop of 4 - with the flash I used a 14-16 and then the DOF-effect will be better. The next insects and the frog I post later will show my results with the external flash and manual settings. Have a great day and thank you for support.

Thats the thing about the onboard camera flash- it just doesnt sit high enough to clear your lens- particularly a good macro lens, sticking out. As you can see in this shot, there is a very short depth of field, contributed by the F-stop of 3.5. The ISO speed of 400 lets in more light, but just not enough to get the subject into the proper aperature bracket to create a larger area of focus. In addition, the higher ISO speed introduces a lot more noise, as evidenced in the areas of non-focus. The only solution to these challenges is introducing more light, either by more powerful flash or incandescent/halogen/flourescent lighting.
