Description

An explanation: There was this great little discussion in my last upload about "Is It Really Grunge?" So I decided to post a typical 'Mark' piece, and you can decide if it's grunge, non-grunge, or just a really bad dream... Since some have asked: My average PS image uses 2 blends, tons of miniscule adjustments---over & over to get a buildup---then I paint lines & dots, scream, weep and generally threaten lawsuits. An average PS image takes 3 - 4 hours. They've gone as high as 12, rarely less than 2. Also: I want to thank Shari (tizjezzme---gallery here) for her wonderful "Grunge" challenge. Read her tutorial here: It's wonderfully simple, and should inspire anyone to try their hand at blends!

OOO! That's gorgeous! I just want to dive in there and rub it all over my ageing skin ...(alright, you don't need to spend too much time visualising that). The complete re-invigoration experience!! Marvellous.

Mark this one is so fantastic and while it truly is a typical "Mark" post in no other way is this colorful work of art typical at all. It has such a dream feel about it, and like being trapped in a magical fantasy world.

A dream it is to my eyes, but not a bad dream. No a wonderful dream. A dance in electric lightings and colors. Marvellous Mark. Marvellous indeed.

You've got me thinking...can you smell the wood burning? Probably the best thing to come out of Sheri's grunge tutorial is to get us photographers a bigger appreciation for mutiple layers (Andrea may not agree). Now I have a teeny, tiny better appreciation for the magnitude of what you've done above. Visually, your pieces are always striking but it helps me to get a feel for the process too. This image is great...sort of reminds me of the bottoms of Tara's glasses. Well done...understatement:)

People who can actually REMEMBER what they've done to achieve a certain effect have my utmost admiration. I just start tweaking, and by the time I'm done, I have NO idea how I've gotten whatever it is I end up with (uh oh, there's one of those dangling prepositions, close relative to the dangling patticiple). Whatever it is that you do, from the layers to the blends to the adjustments, the lawsuits, rages, meltdowns and happy dances~~it WORKS!! This whirls and swirls and makes me laugh and want to wrap myself up in it!!

I don't think it's grunge, I think it's breathtaking art. The colors are swirling and alive, and the textures are the movement of the piece. All the great masters knew that layers are the way to make truly beautiful images! This is stunning.

If this is grunge them I'm an instant convert! This is a fascinating study of seemingly unstructured form, layered textures and a stream of visual consciousness. Exquisite!

YEP!"typical" but a bit different to me,Mark!Something here is very oppen... the colours are very transparent and luminous and the textures are doing a hole!! I feel this time we can go through but with "permission"...and i see a "owl" inside-"the symbol of wisdom"-is that my brain is on fire?-LOL- and i agree with Tim:"always a challenge from you"! Fascinating, Mark!

LOL @ Bill! He isn't talking about my tri-focals, he's talking about the image I posted a couple of days ago! :D I'm feeling quite smug that someone has made ANY connection between my photography and your spectacular artwork! As far as grunge vs. not-grunge ... I guess if you start with a photograph, it's grunge, and if you start with something else, it's ... something else! ??? Whatever. You just keep doing what you're doing, my dear, and I'll be quite happy.

Hi Mark, yes I am missing you already LOL x Well grunge or no grunge, I do not really know or even understand, but all I can say is that I adore the bright colours, and the incredible luminostic lighting within it so much, and also the different patterns within this piece. Also when I stare at it I can see different shapes inside of it, I see a large fish with its mouth wide open in the middle spewing out vivid bright colours. I see what seems like finger prints too, so many things. I think (yes Mark this is me who cannot understand this type of art), that it also reminds me of a stained glass window, full of joy and hope. As for the time it takes you I can well believe it, as it is full of thought and detail, and having taken another look I see the finest silk scarf floating down, now I am completely mesmerized by it Mark :o) thank you, hugs and love Jane xx

This really reminds me of frost on glass. The light from the morning light is shining in and distorts what is on the other side of the glass. Beautiful work.

Your dedicated and time consuming PS efforts remind me of the building of the pyramids in Egypt, and/or the magnificent cathedrals in France, which took generations to complete. As for this art, what can I say? I'm so awestruck by the composition of colorful and nondescript multiple blends and textures that I'm at a loss for the proper words to descibe it.
