Description

The Grunge War continues! I'm not refering to a competition between artists, or a tug of war of images, but to a war that's wholly mine. I just can't make up my mind about grunge! Sometimes I like it, sometimes I don't, and it's not the way people use it or if they do a good job. (You're ALL doing a really good job with it!) It's just about the look. Do I like grunge? YesNoYesNoNo. There you have it ... my definitive answer! ..... Oh, btw ... This is the wisteria garden at the Arboretum. There are several wisteria plants of great age (notice the trunk winding up the post) and I bet when it's all in bloom, it's a spectacular sight!

I'd have to say yes. My favorit plant in my yard is a firn. Comparing to my rose bushes and fig tree. It dosen't bloom with anything other than green leaves, but I have a fasination about it. Nice shot.

I can't decide either, I grunged a few and haven't posted them. Obviously my program doesn't call it grunge, but I still don't know.

I like it in some places but not others, here it gives a wonderful effect of age to the old wisterias. Lovely work.

Yes, I agree, I don't know if I like it or not, well some I do and some I don't. How's that for a definitive answer! I DO like this!!

The final vote is out here also. BUT this is an excellent example of good grunge. I can't believe that I just said that. LOL!! This really works well. Like looking into a garden through cheesecloth or something similar. Very well done and also like the capture of the wisteria plant winding up the post. Sorry if I confused the situation. Dana

Wisteria and Grunge, two things I love, among many things I love. My grandmother had only partly-tame wisteria growing up a pine tree next to her back porch, and when she died, the other members of my gene-group (my family is a completely different group of people all together, and none of them share genetic lineage with me) completely destroyed the wonderful, wild, and riotous vines that scented the whole back yard so astonishingly. Needless to say, they drove zillions of woodlice, beetles, and other multi-legged things into homelessness...but enough of that. I have to say that I love this image, grunge and all. I think you've done an excellent job with the post work, and the color/mood combination is subtle and rich. It reminds me of the visual representation of Lisa Gerrard's music (the stuff she did solo and with the group Dead Can Dance) and in an odd (though complimentary sense) the image looks a lot like something I'd fully expect to see accompanying a rich musical composition on the 4AD record label. This is great work, and the grunge adds a delicate antique quality that makes me think that this image was applied by hand to hand-made paper. That in and of itself is quite a feat!

I Hate to go against the flow on this one but call me old fashioned if you will, I think its not done a good shot any favours, perhaps if it had been in the background only or less prominent, I suppose its done what it says on the box made it grungy. :-)

After reading comments above and on anahata.c's site and others...I am concluding that used as a background works well for certain subjects. Overall, there have been a few who have been able to "grunge" but keep the original vibrance in the end result...which is very pleasing. However, overall grunge (dirty window)...not keen for it either. Hope you can figure out what I just typed...I think I know what I just said:-)

Oh Tara, I'm with you!!! I also still cannot decide if I love or hate it! This one works - so well done! Shari mentioned in her tut that some images will never work in grunge and I agree. I find is huge fun to play with and what I have discovered is that I like it better when the subject stays clear of grunge... But then I worked with other images and it looks good grunged all over... So - yes,no,yes,no.... is continuing here as well!!!

Well, it depence, doesnt it? I think this works well here. I like what it did to the lower left corner, as it looks like it has been raining, but I like the old look of it too.

The composition of this image is just great. Are those reflections in a window or your postwork? Either way: well done!

My opinion is not to say I don't like this picture, because I do, but I don't like grunge at all. For me, it just makes a good picture look dirty and look like it needs to be Photoshopped and cleaned up. For those that like it, great, it just isn't my cup of tea.

Well I think I'm the only one here that loves grunge:) And this is very nicely done, the right texture for the image giving it a old ,mysteries quality.

Perfect description Tara! I never thought of it way but when you let your imagination run away and you look at it further there have been a lot of intrusions all over Renderosity to warrant an all out challenge here!! hehe. We could call it "Shari's Battle Plan" lol!! I think I'll go and lay on the couch now I've said enough!
