Description

Have reworked the mountains from previous....hope they are somewhat better ! They still may be too noisy ! Have mostly worked on the distant shore, tree distribution etc.. This render is missing the bottom 20% and explain the funny aspect ratio ! This total render took 6 days (at a detail of 0.6 and AA of 5 for a 2000 pixel wide image) !!! Have to go read in the forum on how to trim renders ! Poster size would take a year !!! Thanks for viewing and hope you enjoy !

Maybe you are right about the mountains, For me this looks much like mountains I've seen on a clear summerday. A bit of fog or the distortion of sharpness in a damp atmosphere would make the mountains slightly more unsharp. Don't know if you can contol that kin in Terragen.

That's a great Rocky Mountain type scene. Excellent work. Yeh, six days is a painfully long time for a render. You've got a lot of water in your scene with transparency, and that will add to render time. Of course your computer's spec will determine the length of your renders. But, some suggestions which may help bring down your render time. First, double check you've inserted 0.6 (and not 6 in the Detail box). I have made that decimal point mistake several times when I've been in a hurry. That would definitely account for an unusually long render. Next, what are your GI Detail and Quality settings. Default settings of 2 and 2 are adequate for normal scenes such as yours. Also uncheck GI Surface Details as that isn't really necessary unless you're getting really close to the ground. Also if Soft Shadows in the Lighting > Sunlight is checked, it will add to your render time. The guys at Planetside Forum will be able to give you further advice on opitimising render times.

This is a great scene. I'd have to say a bit of softness to the mountain tops or haze would soften the look a bit. But this is an excellent image. 6 days! Ouch.

Superb realism! I think the sharpness works - there's enough softness in the blue shadows of the valley area.

I definitely enjoy the slightly irregular shapes of some of the rocky landforms! Not too many suggestions here - heck, none at all! If you improve this, it will be to satisfy your own tastes. Very impressive, Paul!

I think maybe the displacements for the mountains are a bit too high; however, this is your best TG2 work so far. Picture balance is perfect as is the scale and placement of the trees. A beautiful labor of love Paul; worth every minute of this long render.

I agree with Bob, lovely image all round with perfect coloring. Love the water especially and placement of objects. Bravo!

VEry nice populations and I agree with you about the noise. Sometimes displacement is overrated if you are not right up on the rock or object. Nice work on this beauty!!!

Perfection in my eyes. Reminds me of the Northwest rather than the Rockies. Somewhere north of Seatle. Superb POV terrain is outstanding. The sheer size of the back mounts gives that impression. Your water and trees are just icing in my view. Excellent work!!!!
