Description

Hi Everyone, here is a not too willing participant in my photography hobby. I was mowing the front lawn this morning and this little snake appeared. I went and got my camera and began the photo session. Each time the snake got into the sunlight I was not ready. So this is the last photo I got and it turned out well enough to post. Hope you like it, I know some do not care for snakes. This is a harmless one as we have no poisonous snakes in my region. Common Garter Snake (Thamnophis sirtalis) Garter snakes are very common across North America Best viewed full zoom. Thanks for the look and any comments -GB-

He is a cool looking snake.... We have poisonous ones here. But also have king snakes here rather large but harmless. I found a large snakeskin in my house last year, When I found it I said, "Where are you????" Never did find him, figured he went back outside. Told my husband he better get in bed with you and not me!

Nice pose! Glad you got this so we could have a good look at thim. He shed his jacket on our front walk the other day. It's delicate and textured like he is. Must've gotten too small. Ours are gone before we know they're there, so we don't see much more than a tail.

believe it or not, not long ago I took time to research this type of snake. I had a snake under my deck that needed identifying since we do have poisonous ones here. Garter snakes come in a huge variety with all sort of markings. Some are protected and some are not. All are beneficial in keeping down mice and other garden pests. And most are very shy and not often seen. Great shot. (Oh, I never did figure out what type of snake I had, but I did determine it wasn't poisonous and that was the important part...)

Very colorful indeed. It is good to know more people care about snakes. They are really very docile creatures minding their own business in nature and only come to our notice when we are trespassing in their immediate environment. I even hold this opinion with our feared black mambas around.
