My name is Tara, and I was born and raised in Washington State.
Â
In 2010 I married Bill (bmac62) and retired ... two of the best choices I ever made! :)
Â
In March, 2013, we sold our home in Washington and went on the road in our RV full time. What a blast! There is so much world out there to see!
After traveling around the West for a few years, we got rid of the motorhome and are now spending winters in deep-south Texas and summers in Washington State. Spring and fall finds us visiting whichever place strikes our fancy at the time!

When I first learned to ride, I learned with an English saddle and then graduated to a jumping saddle. Although they are fine pieces of leather and cut with precision, I found that later, when I went on to western pleasure saddle, the detail and workmanship that was influenced greatly by the Spaniards, was a true delight. I spent many hours rubbing the tooled surfaces with saddlesoap and oil, polishing the silver and retying the ties. This shot really brings me "home."

I love the pattern in the saddle. I'm glad you enjoyed your day.

Way to go on the ride! (That's horse ride Tara!) Tut! Beautiful photo. Such incredible details brought out on the leather.... Wonderful. It really is amazing what dwells within such 'ordinary' things!! Well done.... Rob.

Even though it was 30 years ago, I'm betting it didn't take you long to get back into the rhythm of things, still....only sore legs??? Makes me think you didn't want to tell us the whole story either! Glad you had fun though, interesting and cool shot you partially shared!

I love the intricate design in the saddle, Nice angle you've captured it from too. I haven't been horse back ridding since 1980. I used to ride all the time. My best friend Ruthie had horses. Wow, stroll down memory lane here. I'm glad you had a great time and you can still walk after waiting so long to get back in the saddle again.

Excellent! :)

I've often wanted to photograph my dad's old saddle. You did wonderfully on this! Excellent pov color and light!

It's funny, but I'm reading an earlier novel of C.J. Cherryh, and seeing this reminded me of something she'd write about. That's a good thing as she's within my multitude of favorite authors. The details are incredibly rich here, and showing us only part of the saddle really heightens the integrity of it, if that makes any kind of sense. This is fantastic work! Definitely a favorite, and into the favorites' file it goes!

whoa tara, this is beautiful. Beautiful detail but also beautiful lighting with really nice sweep and your way with earth-tones...can't describe it, just know you do it in a number of your shots. You have a way of making 'portraits' of things, and this is a portrait, a singular capture of not all, just some; and it feels like it reveals a lot. Love the comments on "just your 'legs' were sore?" And I wonder if the horse appreciated your popping aspirin afterwards! (Like he'd say, "oh come on, it wasn't that bad!") It's been 200 years since I rode a horse and I'm only 60 years old, so congratulations on getting on one again. Beautiful work, and like Chip, into the favorites' file it goes!
