Description

ENCYCLOPEDIA GALACTICA Edition 428193 - Earth English Definition: 'Freya's Necklace' A Language English1 expression for a specific planetary sub-system in the direction of constellation Pavo, 44,759 light years2 from Earth in the Norma spiral arm. The sub-system orbits a fourteen (14) Jovian mass brown dwarf (EGO 0602-00911069544) informally called 'Freya'3. In turn 'Freya' orbits a 1.2 Solar mass class 'F' star (EGO 0602-00911069510) - consequently called 'Nerthus'. The system is also called simply 'The Necklace' or by comparable translations. The 'Freya' sub-system is remarkable because seven (7) of its nineteen (19) satellites are life bearing2. What is more, each biosphere appears to have evolved independently. This conclusion is supported by the fact that each biosphere manifests a differing heredity encoding mechanism4. Though these mechanisms have evolved elsewhere in the galaxy, Freya's Necklace is the only place where so many are known to have manifested together naturally. These mechanisms are as follows.
  • Single Helix (EGO 0602-00911069601) Dual Helix (EGO 0602-00911069616) Quadro Helix (EGO 0602-00911069609) Dual Interlaced Si:C Lattice (EGO 0602-00911069602) Dispersed Net (EGO 0602-00911069619) Transcellular Web (EGO 0602-00911069611) Habitational Library (EGO 0602-00911069604)
Had life evolved on one satellite and subsequently been transferred to the others then only one genetic encoding mechanism would be observed through out the sub-system. For a detailed summation of each biosphere in Freya's Necklace consult the satellite's EGO number. But in brief, four of the seven birth worlds have given rise to complex organisms with specialized cells, tissues and organs. Two of these worlds have evolved endoskeleton animal life with regulated body temperatures as well as photo consuming plant life. No technological civilizations or intelligences are known to have evolved in 'The Necklace' but the potential exists for such civilizations in the future. Though not within their Sphere of Influence5, this system was discovered and largely explored by Civilization Ara. They have confirmed that Freya's Necklace is made up of natural bodies and not planetoids created by Civilization Gardener6. The seven birth worlds range in mass from 0.36 Earths to 1.8 Earths. Evidence indicates that the system is 3.1 to 3.3 billion years old. As a brown dwarf, 'Freya' likely did not form in the temperate zone2 of 'Nerthus' but is expected to have formed further away orbiting 'Nerthus' at least 7 AU and later migrated with its satellites to its current orbit at 1.2 AU in the later portion of the system's formation. It is expected that life on its moons emerged during this process or shortly thereafter. Though the Si:C biosphere (EGO 0602-00911069602) could have established even earlier as it is mostly subsurface in nature and not dependent upon stellar proximity. The same can be said of the biosphere of the inner ice moon (EGO 0602-00911069609) as its life forms all exist beneath an ice covered global ocean warmed by internal heat generation. This heat generation created by tidal effects caused by the moon's close orbit to 'Freya' Freya is the name for the goddess of love and fertility in the mythology of Norse peoples. Nerthus is believed to be the mother of Freya in the same mythology7. I can only repeat what others have posted here. Wow. You have a real talent for these scenes. The complex fiction certainly contruibutes to the celestial sweep of the work. Bravo.

Awesome stuff, I do so enjoy these encyclopedia type posts from you. Are the patterns on the gas giant a texture, or did you work out some crazy procedurals for this one?
