Description

I walked in the door from work to have Dave greet me, all excited at that. " Honey, I brought you something." Dave proudly states. At this point I am thinking ok , it's not my Birthday until October. We met on August 13th, maybe he got that wrong. Nope he pulls out this ziplock bag with a cockroach in it. To top it off, it's still alive. It came in a box with shipped parts from Singapore. This thing was huge! So I took pictures of it and he got it out of the house and put the bag back in the car to take back to work. I read that these things don't need a partner to reproduce and they lay over 100 eggs. Ya, no thank you. Last year he brought me a Texas Jumping spider, now he was cool and florescent green. I am regifting this bug. Chipka I know you love bugs. So you can have it. This bugs is for you. Honey, next time you want to bring me something home....remember I like flowers. I'd settle for one flower. No more bugs PLEASE! I flagged this for nudity because I took a picture of its underside. I didn't want to offend anyone by showing the genitals of a cockroach. Thank you for looking. Thank you for all the comments on my previous posts, and ladies I hope your partners bring you nice things........not bugs. Have a great night / day. Friends always, Cheri

????? Awwww! I don't think she realizes just how hard this critter was to catch! Apparently they can reach the equivalent (in bug size) of 90 miles per hour, and I can assure you that even in bug size, these guys are quick!!!! So here I am, all proud of myself for catching it, in a plastic bag no less.....alive!!!! Guarantee you that's no easy feat to do, so that I can bring it home for her to get a good pic. for you guys to rant and rave over, thus making her feel all good and proud! What did I get for all my trouble???.....what the h#&! is that!!! Sigh.........some days it just doesn't pay to gnaw through the leather straps! Hey,....at least it wasn't the dead rat we found on Monday!!! Chipka, I guess you can have it if you want.

Funny, and the thing is big. This reminds me of a huge bug that flew by me when I was down in Mexico one year. Great shot!!!

"I flagged this for nudity because I took a picture of its underside. I didn't want to offend anyone by showing the genitals of a cockroach." This is probably the funniest thing I've read all day. XD!! Yeah... cockroaches don't exactly scream 'romance.' But I am surprised he managed to catch the thing.

Stellar clarity and composition in this macro of the cockroach, Cheri. I'm sincerely hoping you put this "gift" to permanent rest up in cockroach heaven, because that's all we need is some highly prolific foreign insect wreaking havoc here in the USA. Unlike spiders, they are dirty little buggers...and guess what, because of their structure they would likely survive all other life forms in the wake of a nuclear exchange. In other words, they would inherit the earth.

Cheri we have palmetto bugs in Texas that are that size I believe... you should have put something in the pic to show it's size... When I first saw these I screamed ,,, and they fly too.. been here so long now I don't scream anymore I just shoot them with raid... LOL the mice turned into rats too. Last one that ran through my kitchen I stomped on and then hit with a saucepan all while cussing.... Went from screaming at them to cussing and killing... LOL

Dave brought it home so I could get a picture or two and he is bringing it back to work to put in some kids bug collection. I'm not mad at him,but the next time he says I've got something for you it better be flowers or something other then bugs.

How sweet! LOL Couldn't help myself, y'all inspired me with this bug... HE BROUGHT HER A PRESENT, A VERY LARGE BUG! NOT THE MOST THOUGHTFUL OF GIFTS… BUT C‘MON NOW, IT DON’T MAKE HIM A THUG. SHE TRIED HER BEST TO MAKE A SWEET COO, BUT ALL THAT CAME OUT WAS A RATHER SQUEALLY, HIGH PITCHED “EEEUUWWWWWW” “HONEY, REALLY, IT’S THE THOUGHT THAT COUNTS” SHE MUMBLED, FINDING IT HARD TO GET THE WORDS OUT AROUND HER LIP’S POUTS. I MEAN, HE PROBABLY THOUGHT, IT WAS A GREAT GIFT ALTHOUGH (BEING A MAN) I’M SURE HE’D NOT IN THE LEAST, CONSIDERED THE THRIFT. YES, SO SWEAT AND GREAT EFFORT WAS SPENT CHASING IT ROUND WITH A NET, BUT IT COST HIM NOT EVEN ONE SINGLE, BLOODY RED CENT! IT COULD HAVE BEEN EXPENSIVE CANDY, SHE MUSED, THINKING CONFECTIONS, GODIVA PERHAPS, WAS SURELY MORE DANDY! STIFLING A SCREAM IN A RATHER LARGE GULP AS SHE SAW A LEG WIGGLE, QUELLING TOO, HER HAND WANTING TO MASH IT TO PULP “NOW DEAR“, SHE MOANED A REALLY BIG PLEA “DO TAKE IT AWAY“, IMAGINING ESCAPE, THINKING HOW SWIFTLY THOSE LONG LEGS WOULD FLEE. “SWEETHEART“, SHE SAID, TO SOFTEN THE REPROACH “YES, YOU LOVE ME, AND UMMM, FLOWERS, THEY SAY IT WELL SO NEXT TIME, DON’T BRING ME A STUPID COCKROACH!!!” YZ 07-15-09

Nice capture, not crazy about the model. Very funny story. I remember the first time I discovered roaches fly. I was sneaking up to spray a huge roach in Louisiana. It flew right at me. The can went flying and my legs did a wild scrambling motion trying to keep up with the rest of me. My but hit the floor and the roach got away.

WOW! This is impressive. Cockroaches are such efficient creatures. They only need to mate once and for the rest of their lives they're creating gaggles and gaggles of eggs in detachable little cockroach trailers. Fantastic clarity on this. I once saw an Asian cockroach (the bigger, darker cousin to this fella who looks German by the way) and she was carrying a cargo-load of eggs the size of Massachusetts. Well, maybe the size of Rhode Island, I do tend to exaggerate, after all. I love this! Of course, now I'm thinking of Kafka's protagonist, Gregor Samsa...he woke up one day to find himself transformed into one of these! Super work, and I wonder how many more of these Singaporean monster roaches are being shipped worldwide. I'm sure it's done on purpose, as the Cockroach Cabal has been hell-bent on reclaiming the earth, following that horrible Cretaceous incident that led to organizational restructuring and body-size reduction. This is stellar work.
