Description

The Giant Kingfisher or for the technical folks - Ceryle Maxima. This fellow is the largest of the kingfishers (46 cm) and I was very lucky to get this image a couple of years ago in the Kruger National Park here in South Africa! He was sitting on the railing of a bridge long enough for me to shoot off just one photo! It was still done on film - so I was very lucky that it was a half decent image! Thank you for popping in and for your very valued comments and favs on my waterfall upload of yesterday! Stay well!! Hugs, Carin xx

I know next to nothing about kingfishers, so I looked it up. Such variety!! It boggles the mind. (Converted cm to inches, too, so now I know how big this guy is.) Great capture ... I'm impressed!

What a wonderful image, Carin! I love kingfishers but rarely see them! This one is magnificent, (18 inches-wow!) and a great shot of him! Bravo!

Wonderful! And to think these guys are descended from dinosaurs! Ah, it's always the little ones that remind you of that. It's funny, when I first saw the image, I thought he was some type of woodpecker; I think it's the way the feathers near the back of his head sweep upward slightly. Great color. Fantastic detail as well, and yeah, naturally, he'd only allow one good shot before going off to attend to whatever business he had to attend to.

You did well as they are very jittery when on the hunt.
