Description

No islands left, for islanders. I was listening to a song by a fantastic singer, composer and piano player. He is the 6.th best selling artist in USA. I believe he has some connection to Long Island, NY. I think he has been an islander most of his life. He wrote a song called *The Downeaster Alexa*. It is his boat. A downeaster named after his daughter, Alexa. It is a stunning composition in a very special folk style. Brilliant lyric.. straight from the heart. Click here to eperience my source of inspiration Great video for the song too, by the way. As soon as i realized what the lyric was about...I had to interpret his composition and put an image on it. The song is about how hard... the Long island fishermen, baymen, whatever... was hit by sad tendences in our society. I have been an islander all my life...and always will be.... #;oD My father was an islander all of his life... my grand father was an islander and a fisherman all his life. My great grand father was an islander and a fisherman all his life.... The ocean is a dangerous place to work... deadly to some. Several of my old friends from the school days.. has drowned during their career as a fisherman. So i could very much identify with the lyric of the song. Even if my entire family has died... I still remember who, how, and what they were. I guess that is why i liked the song a lot. I find it sad to see how power holders, destroy small societies.. especially the islanders. The power holders want us all to live in big cities. Then it is easier for them to control us and surveil us. #;oD God forbid that. #:o) I also think the conclusion on the lyric is... society want us all to be a professor. Even the people who are not born to be a professor. I belive that fact make a lot of peolple unhappy. Boat - Fishing boat is a freebie from ShareCG. Deviney wave brushes. Daughter - Gina for MG from FairyDreams/Thorneworks. Bayman and father - M4 from DAZ. Mother - Lady Starlight V4 is my own creation.

As usual you picked a great piece to write about and gave it a great voice! I too have lost friends on the fishing and crab boats in Alaska and I know many who have lost a husband, daughter, brother to the seas. Very nicely composed and written Lars, the image is superb, the song and video also superb, thank you!

Lars I once again find myself agreeing with you on your thoughts on those in power and their attempt to herd us into areas where we can be better controlled. For someone such as yourself that comes from a long line of Islanders who have a love for the ocean it strikes home most of all. Great work on this image and wonderful job of bringing your vision to life

You are right on Lars. Commercial fishing is the most dangerous job in the world. We need the small independant fishermen because the big ones destroy everything. Excellent image with so much heart

Great render, Lars and I especially like the limited lighting. It lends more mystery to the feeling of the image. The Chesapeake Bay, near my neck of the States was once a thriving local fisherman's source of pride and income. It is vanishing quickly.

Such a beautiful and inspiring image, full of creativity and representation! The various ways of life in the smaller cities, I personally find most admirable and most difficult, in fact, whereas most people from the larger ones, have this conception of themselves as more powerful... yet so very wrong ... in every sense of the word. I think you've definitely brought up a beautiful idea and created an image derived out of a brilliant inspiration and intention. Stunning artistry and composition!
