Description

Quasi una fantasia - Almost a fantasy. Inspiration comes from a fantastic classical piece of music. Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 14 in C-sharp minor. Opus 27, No. 2. Mostly known as: "Moonlight" sonata. Beethoven wrote it in 1801 - "Moonlight" sonata (Quasi una fantasia). Click here to hear a beautiful version of it "Moonlight" sonata is one of the most beautiful, and also best known sonatas, Beethoven ever wrote.... But why? I have been listening to it regularly for more than 30 years. And i always liked it a lot. But i never knew why it was written, and for whom it was written... untill yesterday. I got curious about it... and i suspected, that very deep emotions had to be involved. A masterpiece of such beauty, could not possibly come from nowhere. So i did some research, to learn it's story and origin. And my suspicions were right.... The "Moonlight" sonata was written and dedicated, by Beethoven, to a young countess named, Giulietta Guicciardi. She was 17 years old, when she in the year 1801, was accepted as a music student, at Beethoven's. Beethoven was 31 years old at that time. But he instantly fell deeply in love with her. Actually both of them fell in love. Beethoven proposed to her. She accepted, and her mother approved the marriage too. But her father did not approve. Beethoven were just a musician and composer. A man without rank or wealth. A relatively unimportant person, at that time. A year later, in 1802, Countess Giulietta Guicciardi, married a rich Count. That same year, Beethoven released the "Moonlight" sonata for the first time. Personally...i think Beethoven gathered all his feelings for her...in the "Moonlight sonata". That is why it is so incredibly beautifully composed. So when we listen to Moonlight sonata... we actually hear Beethoven's love, for Giulietta. A sad, but beautiful love story.. which triggered one of the finest sonatas ever written. I could not resist the opportunity, to let the inspiration from "Moonlight" sonata..carry me away. This image is what came out of it. A few facts to support this post: L.V.Beethoven Moonlight sonata Countess Giulietta Guicciardi

You learn something new every day it seems. I had no idea the backstory for this most beautiful, heartstring-tugging song. And the image is so fitting. Yet another brilliant work from you, L. Hats off. :)

Lars this is such a magnificent image and I honestly don't think you could have created anything to better respresent the story you described so well. I had no idea about this bit of history either and am so thrilled you shared it with us to cast a new light on the classic piece of music

Totally stunning work. You use light in the most amazingly beautiful ways. Here again, you've use light like like it was paint. I doubt that Beethoven's sonata could have been captured any better then you have. The background history truly changes the whole feel of the music when one listens to it again.
