Description

Top foto captured 5/3/08, bottom captured 4/21/09, very early in the morning, within walking distance of my laconic lair. This glass display is on the east-facing wall of a Veterans of Foreign Wars building. Actually, these are not true glass blocks per se, but rather a veneer composed of relatively thin glass plates that are easily prone to breakage. There is about a two-inch separation between the glass and a plywood backing, resulting in the amber effect you see. These blocks are not as sophisticated as those shown in my Glass blocks #4 and #5, but they do project an interesting effect. Incidentally, because of the plywood, no light penetrates through to the other side of the wall and into the room, which houses the bar. Tallyho and toodles.

Wonder if plywood on the wall of the VFW bar room meets code? I'll bet these blocks let in more light than they wanted. Light shows up the barware and warms the place. Turn up the air-conditioner please Harry:-)

The first thing that jumped to mind when I looked at the top image was choppy seas!!! I get the feeling of water movement the way the light reflect! Fantastic work Harry! :)

Another fine display of the interplay of light in the wavy glass; the golden color is quite lovely! Excellent shot, Harry!

LOL the light was just too much for them after having a few......or this way their wives couldn't tell they were in there because they parked in an alley. Nice shot and great texture.

what an interesting set of facts: If they have wood behind, and the glass is shatter-able, why do they bother with it in the first place? Maybe to give the appearance of glass while using textured glass so we don't see the plywood. Kind of like a big table cloth over a scratched table (lol). Nice golden hues as tara says, and it's amazing how they morph across the glass, changing hues in so many subtle ways. I'm seeing these glass blocks in ways I never have, because of your gallery. I just never bothered to look before. But, that's what photographers are for!
