Description

Hi Everyone! Once again, it's been ages since I've visited the gallery - I'm now at University studying Electrical Engineering. Anyway, I'm just back from a 3 day holiday in the Blue Mountains, so I've got a stack of new things to share over the next week or so. About this image: Jenolan Caves is a popular tourist attraction, near Oberon, NSW, Australia. They comprise an extensive network of underground limestone formations, believed to be the oldest in the world. Several of the caves are open to the public, with concreted paths and electric lighting. I've visited it many times since early childhood. This formation is known as The Bishop. It has naturally formed by sedimentary deposition over millions of years. It's found in the Lucas Cave. I personally like this formation for photographic reasons: it's extremely well lit, and is one of the few formations which can be photographed without resorting to the flash. Captured with an EOS 300D, with a Canon 90-300mm zoom lens. Your comments, criticisms, or questions are all welcomed! Thankyou for looking! - Please View Full Size -

A very dramatic picture. It takes a few seconds, but I can see a bishop shape of the stalagmite. I like how the cave provides a natural black background for dramatic effect. I cannot wait for the next ones.

Wow this is an awesome rock formation. Really great capture. Good luck with the degree. My son is going to go into engineering as well, he hasn't decided for sure what specialty. He has a year of high school yet, hopefull he'll sort it out.
