Description
This is a representation of the Kuen surface, a pseudosherical surface.
It's my first serious work with Carrara.
The 3D object and the 3 graphics on the paper sheet are from 3D-XplorMath, the handwrite equation is from my good friend the mathematician Richard Palais professor at UCI and creator of 3D-XplorMath. The pencil come from; http://www.virtual-lands-3d.com/ I adapted the material of it for my need.
I tried various way to represent this surface over the last 3 years, this is my last and final try... I hope :-)
Update: My friend Richard Palais and I, have won the first place, illustration category, in the 2009 National Science Foundations International Science & Engineering Visualization Challenge
The title of the image for the NSF Challange was "Kuen's Surface: A Meditation on Euclid, Lobachevsky and Quantum Fields"

Lovely image! Congratulations! The caustics are beautiful and add a lot of realism. I think with some better wood texture it could easily pass for a photo.
