Description

I like tonight's posting despite it's flaws. The same can be said for tomorrows posting, lol. I realize the Dragonflies are not in sharp focus but I like the composition enough to overlook that. As I mentioned in yesterday's posting, Some Dragonflies stay in physical contact while laying eggs. This species almost does that. They stay attached until just before they decide it is time, then she breaks lose (or he releases her) and she dips down to the water where she drops eggs before immediately re-attaching. I noticed that several species liked a particular area where some water plants had formed a small matted area over shallow water. They returned to it often. I simply waited till they paused just before egg laying, then clicked like crazy, lol. Unfortunately, they were never the same exact distance from me and without them to focus on, the entire procedure became a hit and miss experiment. They were also about 12 foot away and that is pushing the limits of my 200mm zoom lens. I have yet to see a female Carolina Saddlebags by herself. I have no idea where they go between matings. Thanks to those who take the time to comment. Lee

The color is startling on that background of water and the pose is intriguing. Wonderful information and a great shot for the distance and circumstance.
