Description

Another Dragonfly captured in flight. The 2nd in this series of four such images I am posting in this short series. Once again, this female (a Blue Dasher this time) was hovering just an inch or so above the water and she would sporadically dip her tail to lay eggs. With some Dragonfly species, the female is alone when egg laying. Some species have males which hover very near by so they can chase off competing males who are trying to hook up with the egg laying female and remove the sperm from earlier matings. Some species stay in physical contact while the female is laying eggs. It is all very complicated, lol. This was a good day for getting some unique (for me) Dragonfly images. Among the shots I got are two more Dragonfly in flight images to show and a bit later, I will show several images of a very common Dragonfly species which has been frustrating me for five years, lol. Okay Lee, this has to be one of my all time favorites of your images! You said earlier in one of your descriptions that you don't manipulate colors. This amazes me. There is nothing about this capture that I don't like. The composition, colors, natural setting. etc. It is very interesting to the viewer. Great, great, great image!!

Not only are the patterns on the back and the colors fascinating, it is also astonishing to see that the wings are strikingly like a helicopter here. Outstanding, Lee!
