Description

Gray Comma Butterfly - Polygonia progne Superfamily Papilionoidea / Family Nymphalidae (brush-footed butterflies) / Subfamily Nymphalinae / Tribe Nymphalini - "Leaf Butterflies" These butterflies are described as very friendly. It had no problem with having several picture of it taken. I think it really enjoyed the fallen mulberries from our tree, but this gives you an idea how small it was. Our berries are not very big this year. It really was quite friendly. I looked online to find out the type and this is what else I found. Commas are part of an association of butterflies commonly known as anglewings, which have sharply angled wings. When folded at rest, the undersides resemble dead leaves or pieces of bark. This group includes anglewings, tortoiseshells, commas, question marks, leafwings, snouts and daggerwings. Thank you for taking a look. Both critical and non critical comments are welcome and taken to heart. Thank you for all the comments on my previous posts, they all mean so much to me. Have a most wonderful evening. Peace, Cheri

Cheri, I like the shot and like the mulberries. Anyone who has not seen a mulberry tree would be surprised at these hanging there, tasty and almos out of place for a tree. I will offere one critical comment and that is focus. Did you use auto focus? It appears the berries and background are sharper than the butterfly. Manual would cure that but I was not there at the time and don't know how it was done.

I know it's not a really awesome photo, I was just so amazed at it's size and wanted to share. I posted the best one of the series. it was actually starting to put its wings down when I snapped it. I think my camera is on its way out. it doesn't take pictures as well as it used to and for some reason has become really slow.

Today was incredibly less than fun. The company I work for let go 93 people, some of whom have been my friends for some twenty years. I think at that mark, people are more like family, then just mere friends or co workers. As we were sitting outside, on the side porch, an old friend of mine stopped by, I hadn't seen him in more than just a few years. As we were sitting and reminiscing, this little one came around, never settling long but tempting the crap out of Cheri, who quickly ran for her camera. This all brought into mind, how much of our lives are just fleeting moments, all woven into the fabric, but ever changing, for nothing ever lasts forever! Sometimes what we we wish for and want, is beyond what is possible, and we become frustrated, and sometime depressed. In reality, change is inevitable, like it or not, and more often than not....we don't. But change is the only constant that will ever be in our lives, an oxymoron for sure, but true! Cheri captured this perfectly!! A fleeting moment, one of a butterfly who had gone through a tremendous change in it's life, here one minute, gone the next. Just like us all!!! Sweet shot baby,...You are my ever changing, better each day, butterfly! I love you, and am so glad you decided to be a part of my fleeting moment here. I had hoped that I would bring more ups than downs, into your world, and your life. In the mean time, you continue to grow and shine. I am truly grateful, for you!!

Commas and question marks as names for butterflies? If they're going to that length, how about colons, semicolons, slashes, hyphens, equal signs, periods, carets, brackets, quotation marks, etc., LOL, hahaha. Stellar capture of the friendly butty amidst the scrumptious mulberries, Cheri!
