Description

As my son and I walked the north fork of the Merced River, we saw all kinds of gorgeous wildflowers. He knows the names of most of them, but this one is a mystery. I missed the big bloom, he told me, but there were still riots of color everywhere.

I'm sure the more untouched regions of that area—or any area that hasn't been domesticated—are filled with flowers whose origins predate our many domesticated species of plantlife. This looks primal; and the shot is awash in oranges, yellows & reds, and has all that strange undulating texture that you get when you photograph nature's wilder moments. The petals & stems in shots like these become a kind of underwater kingdom...power & beauty abound. And it's amazing that your son knows all of these. I guess it comes from being there so many times...It's always wonderful how a single trip gives you so many vital shots & memories...you should be paid to travel.
