Description

Mars polar region ice-caps contain vast deposits of water-ice, and the majority of the remaining carbon dioxide atmosphere frozen out as 'dry ice'. This is a significant source of raw materials for producing air, fuels and pure water. This image illustrates canyons of water-ice with lighter drifts of CO2 'snow'. Mars larger moon, Phobos is shown in orbit. How we know this: http://www.esa.int/SPECIALS/Mars_Express/SEMEX9M5NDF_0.html
