Description

"...across the glens and burhoughs of the lands a high keening was heard for nigh on to seven nights, and nae man nor beast dreamt those nights. Then upon the high moon, when mist covered ore the dales, when the silver moon turned blood and a phantom shadow walked the lanes, clad in deathly pallor and were followed by that keening cry. Seventh Night saw the ghostly maid with blood upon her hands, and inhuman eyes regarding any who gazed upon her. At sunrise the clan hall were silent in mourning and black shrouds hung 'pon all windows panes. The Chieftain had been collected in the night, his fair bride a widow. She had opened the door tae a stranger in ghostly green that night. Lost was her Laird and husband, but it stilled the Banshee's wail." ~~~~ The Banshee, primarily of Irish and Scottish folklore, was the harbinger of death to, depending on the telling, either the individual who heard her cry, or a member of a family. Often depicted as the Triple Goddess of Celtic legend, she is, at once, the maiden, the matron and hag, and shown wearing either a hooded cloak, shrouds, garments of green or grey or as a washer woman attempting to clean the bloody garments of that individual that is to die. As well as altering her appearance, her cry can change as well. All things from a pleasant singing to a shrill keening so high it will shatter glass, or a screeching sound between a woman's wail and the moaning of an owl, and, on occasion, the clapping of two boards being struck together (this is thought to be the sound of the coffin lid being closed on the deceased). This is what I get for watching horror movies all day. *wry smirk* ~~~~ Victoria 4.2 -- DAZ Aphrodite Mats and Morphs -- Liquid Rust Fae Realms -- Ravenhair Fae Jewels Texture -- Moyra Amphitrite Hair V4 -- 3Dream, Mairy Fog Tool Deluxe III -- Nerd 3D Mystic Backgrounds -- Freebie Pose, lighting and 'story' by me Historical information from Wikipedia and lots of research

No more horror movies for you!! Not until Halloween anyway laughs evilly A simply magnificent take on the Banshee! I love the pose and expression, and the costume and hair add to her Celtic/Fae heritage. A wonderfully woven tale compliments your image. Love how you tell it with period/culturally appropriate language. A favorite for sure! Just as long as I don't hear her!
