Description

Shoo Shoo Baby was a popular song sung by the Andrew Sisters in 1944. Most of us Renderositians weren't around then but believe it or not, a few of us were:-) I won't name names. The crew of this B-17 named their aircraft after the song, added another Shoo and had the local airfield artist render an attractive young lady on the nose. I cut a lot away...all kinds of other stuff nearby to distract the eye. So for those of you who like whole objects...you just get a taste this time:-))) Thanks for stopping by, Bill:) Link with the details: Shoo Shoo Baby Location: USAF Museum, Dayton, Ohio.

Nice capture and postwork. The B-17 was a favorite plane of mine as a child. I don't think the pilot is wearing a regulation uniform though. ;']

i LOVE the Andrews Sisters--I used to be in a tap dance group (On Tap!!) and we did a number to "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy", one of the best songs ever as far as I'm concerned!! Great shot, I love how the pilots of these planes personalized them.

Great post work, Bill. Great to be able to get into the plane and sit in the bombers seat! For me, a younger 'Renderositian', the B-17 in the Canadian animated film 'Heavy Metal' (1981) springs to mind.... Now my mind is playing music from that soundtrack! Cheers, Clive

Shame on you. I had to go listen to Shoo Shoo Baby to see if I remembered it, then got sidetracked by "Don't sit under the apple tree", "White CLiff's of Dover" and several others. Sheesh! I never did get my project for tonight done. ;)

Well ten years later I came into this crazy world, but all through my childhood, this song was on the radio. You've seen him up and down the avenue And now he's wearin' the navy blue She had a tear in the corner of her eye As he said his last goodbye Shoo, shoo, shoo baby Shoo, shoo, shoo baby Bye, bye, bye baby Do-dah do-day Your papa's off to the seven seas

bill, this really has something in common with your "impressionist" series, because you're once again isolating the plane from the background, you're bathing it in rich blacks, and your allowing the plane to speak with an inner glow. This isn't postworked-over, but it has your always fine light & shade & contour, and it has that inner glow that your other plane shots have had. I like the song reference too, am familiar with the song from my music-playing days but don't remember it, and love the way they brought song references into a vehicle used for such weighty purposes. The pov & lighting is beautiful. You really do planes beautifully.

Another fine shot of what a B-17 ready fro action should look like. Rainastorm is a youngster for sure with "old vinyl records."

I think they used to play that in the movie theaters, when we'd go on a Saturday for 25 cents. Reminds me of seriously hot buttered popcorn, not the yellow dye stuff they have now.

Stellar capture of the nosework on the Boeing B-17G Flying Fortress, Bill. Lots of missions by this baby. Is that a Norden bombsight I see through the plastic? And, believe it or not, I do remember the song and the talented Andrews Sisters.
