Well, hope I didn't gross you out (lol) but I had a cough that could stop a Hurricane, so I had to draw it. This is what it felt like, and trust me--it's an accurate portrayal. (Can you sue coughs? Any Bronchial Lawsuits out there?) Friends, I haven't commented in days & I'm just catching up, so please know I'll get to you all. I've been catching up with work too---you know, we should be paid to post art: It would make life a lot easier... Finally, thanks for all your comments on my 200th!!! You helped make it a great day. I appreciate your support more than you know...

Oh gosh ... I KNOW that cough! I had something quite similar here a few weeks ago. Laryngitis, probably permanent damage -- you don't want to know. I don't think I sound quite normal YET! People said, "You sound sooooooo sexy!" and I said, "I SOooooooo don't give a sh*t!" It's no fun. You have perfectly captured the way the entire world narrows down to one thing with a cough like that. There is nothing else but the cough, and its percussions and repercussions flow out to encompass your entire world!

You must have no idea how accurate a portrayal this is of what I have in MY lung, Mark! Brilliant pic! Here is a link to a photo of a slice of lung with an aspergilloma like mine....not for the fainthearted! http://pathhsw5m54.ucsf.edu/case16/aspergilloma.html

That must have been one horreednous cough, Mark! It provided you another artistic inspiration as compensation for your suffering. Welcome back!

First of all Mark I'm so sorry for the bad cough you have and you did a brilliant job of showing us just how you felt here. I must say it reminds me a bit of the walls inside the compound in the Aliens movie. ;)

Well, I must say a big ugly nasty mean-spirited cough has never been so beautifully and artistically protrayed. I think it's that big wad of misery in the middle that got me. I had a cough once upon a time that was so ferocious I didn't think my stomach muscles were ever going to be the same again. :o) CC

I think I can see that cough expanding and contracting...it really does look like how I've felt with a nasty cough. I hope you're doing better! But despite being a portrayal of something so unpleasant, it's a beautiful work of art, Mark. Maybe you've discovered a new niche, disease art?

This makes me want to clear my throat - mmmmmhhhhhhmmmmmuph. Better. Your sense of what to draw always makes me re-think things. !Glad you've seen the last of this dude!

OH YEAH Mark, this looks really nasty and I already know it is. Even though it looks gorgeous too. "The evil Beauty" LOL! My best wishes for your speedy recovery, my dear friend. :)

When I have a cough, it's never nearly this pretty--it would be black and brown, look like a bunch of leaves that got rained on. Then they sat there long enough to turn into something slimy and grimy and slippery. I am SO jealous that YOUR cough is SO artistic!! Mostly I'm glad you're better, my friend!!

I see lots of positive energy flowing out from this labyrinth of illness. It reminds me of a fun ride at a carnival--like those scary tunnels one travels through in the dark with fabric hanging down that brush across your face and make you feel like you're suffocating. To me, the body has always seemed like a microcosm of the larger universe, so, I think you've depicted a fiery explosion into the light (or to the end of the illness ride) very well. I used to get bronchitis and asthma off and on for years, so, I, too, can relate to these gut wrenching coughs. I am glad to see you posting again because it means you are on the road to recovery. Art is therapy and maybe this drawing helped you recover faster. And yes, wouldn't life be wonderful if all the arts were financially supported?

This is such a fascinating piece. Wonderfully done despite the fact that it is causing you discomfort. Get better soon.

Superb. There right in the middle is THE SOUND itself. I don't think I've ever seen a sound before! I sympathize with all of you with coughs...haven't had one for a mighty long time. When you are healing up from this procedure of mine, the last two things you want in the world is to cough or laugh. At some future time maybe you can illustate a laugh for us. No, really...bet you can do it! Talented guy you are.

NYQUIL ..... okay want another one.. you have to try this OK... put some Vicks vapor rub on your feet, no I am not kidding, then get some soft little clean (lol) socks and put them on your feet, go to bed early, and let me know if it works. Sturm and Drang! A fabulous portrayal of phlegm heaven in this shocking concept, Dave! Actually, kind of looks like an electrically stimulated eyeball to me, but what do I know of such arcane matters? That said, a stellar and unparalleled variety of bilious slime and mucous in this colorful display!

I get my umbrella and i sat in front of "you", better: in front of your cough! And i´m astonished! This is like as if watching a thunderstorm through the window!!Coloured fluids like rain...powerful light and so much energy! and i can see the sound all around like a "bass drum" and your breast and your lung and your heart too...all in great mouvement.BEAUTIFUL.Sorry,Mark..but your cough is a beautiful feast of colour and sound, all envolved in tissues like silk...i love it!I almost want it for me..LOL! Now, serious:i wish you be better soon, but this is wonderful!! how can you put your eye into you, this way????

I think you and I were sharing the same cough. I am almost 3 weeks into it and just now feeling better. Gorgeous colors and work. I hope youare feeling better now my friend.

OMG... this looks so painful! SMACK!!! Right in the middle of your chest. And then the tremors ripple out - followed by those nasty demon eyes and fingernails. You can FEEL the burning sensation course slowly around your midriff and then you're just flat out blinded by that need to inhale!! Amazing what comes out on paper through your hand, Mark. Wow. EDIT: And - can I ask Harry who the heck is Dave?? Must be who you turn into when you have a cough this nasty... lol. Maybe you will get paid if you're Dave...just for this one upload.

Fantastic artwork! 5*:)

Quite a portrayal. I hope you are feeling better. I like the image though.. to me it seems like a pulsing power... waiting in a dark subterrranean chasm.

In January and February, I had this cough. There was a break near the end of January when I started to feel better. Just in time to rush my dog to the vet's with a pancreatic attack, bring him home the next day, administer subQ fluids and meds for the next 3 days, and no sooner did he get better then I relapsed. Now, I have to agree with beachzz .. though I recognized it right off as a miserable cough/fever thing, mine was nowhere near as beautiful and richly colored as yours. Mine was dull browns, drab blacks like those crow feathers you find sometimes on the ground .. after winter has dulled them, and fiery stabs of red for the sore chest and aching stomach muscles and the throat that's on fire .. So, my question is this: How can a cough be so beautiful???
