Description

Hey hey, the working man, the working man like me I ain't never been on welfare, that's one place I won't be Cause I'll be working long as my two hands are fit to use I drink a little beer in a tavern Sing a little bit of these working man blues Yeah drink a little beer in a tavern, Cry a little bit of these working man blues Lyrics: Merle Haggard I am thinking he is not all that blue.. So I thought I would share a little story about my shopping adventure with my daughter Erin. First of all let me introduce Erin she is 16 going on 32 and she never fails to amuse me with her attitude and sense of humor, but shopping with her can be a challenge, so.... we leave and she has stores in mind where she wants to shop, well knowing how long it takes her to pick out, try on and browse through racks and racks of clothes I decide to drop her off at the first store so I can run an errand or two, so I do that, and return, she is still trying on clothes, okay so I browse around, I went down every aisle in this store, I was looking at dog dishes, I have no dog, there was even an aisle of art work, framed photos, I saw a few and got a couple ideas for some of my photos so I sketched them on the back of my list, for later reference, she is still trying on clothes, I run into a friend and probably spend 15 minutes catching up. and yep she's is still trying on clothes so finally we leave purchase in hand, one shirt she actually choose I had noticed and thought that would be cute on her, score one for mom. Earlier we had been looking and I picked a shirt up that I thought was "her" and said this looks like an Erin shirt, and she gave me a look and said its more like a Jenna shirt. LOL Jenna is her older sister, and they are like day and night when it comes to fashion, Jenna is jeans and t-shirts hair in a pony tail ready to run out the door, Erin is to say it mildly high maintenance haha .. Still with me here? So we head for a shoe store, her second favorite thing besides purses, as I am entering the store, my phone rings, its my sis from California, and the music in the store is loud so I motion to Erin that I'm going go out side so I find a bench and we end up talking for probably an hour, and I finally laugh and say I better go see what the damage is in the shoe store, Loraine laughs she knows her well. So I head back in this teenager goes out of her way to hold the door open for me, she must have been a foot away but walked back to get it for me (only in Tennessee) so Erin is standing there box in hand I open the box and inside one pair of black HIGH heels, mom is not surprised, so I smile and say I can't recall ever wearing high heels in school. We finish our shopping and are driving home and she says to me, so I know what I am going to wear tomorrow and I say oh?? and she says yeah remember that skirt you made me a long time ago, and I think back, I made her this skirt in probably 7th grade, for some school function, and I say yes, so she say well I am going to wear that with a white sweater, lol. So okay in my mind I am thinking; Shopping for a whole day, shelling out money on clothes, shoes, and searching for that perfect pair of already faded jeans, and she's going to wear a skirt I made her 5 years ago, Unbelievable , shopping with a 16 year old wanna be fashion model PRICELESS I came home and poured a big glass of wine, turned on the Dodger game and fell into my favorite chair exhausted, and Erin as she does every year gave me a fashion show of her new Fall wardrobe. Did I mention you all rock. thumb_1926148.jpg

I love this farm scene and rolled hay. The story about your daughter is great. Mine is 24 now. I don't miss the clothes shopping however, I miss her being young and silly.

Excellent capture! The bales of hay just go on and on. Love the story. I've got two boys so haven't experienced the clothes shopping woes. But I used to go with them into Gamestop to buy thier birthday presents. I would be done browsing in about 2 minutes and then bored for the next eternity.

first, your story about shopping was great. Loved it. And the least you could've done is post the dress you made, lol! Very funny...And ok, I read Jodie's comment and she said you have the family dog in this shot: This isn't your property, is it??? I mean, if it is, you got a biggggggggggg piece o' land, madame! You might wanna get some help, 'cause caring for that little acre is gonna take more than a cow dog and a few rakes, lol! It's a beautiful shot, the light is beautiful, the contrasts are beautiful, the spread of the hay bales is beautiful including close shots and far shots (they spread out like little creatures), the low large & flat buildings in the distance are beautiful against that low horizon, and the trees & hills and deep blue sky are in just the right proportion. A sweeping & gentle shot (and your light! wonderful!). May I give an opinion? I know you've gotten your fill in the last few uploads, but I say this as an artist who learns all the time, himself: This is such a fine shot, I don't think you need any kind of beveling or special framing or anything. Just a basic rectangle or two. Your framing here is fine—nothing wrong with it—but the picture just blows the frame away in my humble opinion. In any case, the bevel is very skillfully done, so I'm not complaining. A beautiful shot, and a definite fav. This is Tennessee, and this is the midwest. This is beautiful.
