Description

[Family Scoliidae - Scoliid Wasps - Genus Campsomeris- my best guess] Seen a lot of these large wasps yesterday at the wetlands. These guys are BIG! About 2 inches long. Thick and robust. They are not to jumpy around my presence, but I am jumpy around theirs. They scare me... ;-) Thanks for looking. -Bruce Canon XTi w/50mm 2.5 and +2-+4 Hoya close up filters. Flash used with Gary Fong Puffer Diffuser.

Another brillant shot - really like the way you manage to capture the fine hair and eye details. Did you using your flash with the diffuser on this one?

Great shot of this king wasp (such huge size!!) I remeber two years ago I was on The museum of Nature sciences. The have a great collection of insects (death in presentation boards) And they use to show a common wasp of my country (beglium) and the same variety coming from africa... Say eight time the size of our little local wasp! As crazy as impressive!!
Btw, beautiful speciment!!

After being chased by a swarm of angry small English wasps, the sound of yours gives me the creeps, great shot though.
