Description

To begin, I love classic sci-fi cover art. They're like the classical art themes painted in the days of the Renaissance. I look to old cover art the same way I do to those old masters. The classics dealt with Greek or biblical stories. Icarus is one of my favorites. In those old illustrations, as in the classic tales, the astronauts were great explorers, tragic or wide-eyed. Out on the frontiers of space. No one to count on but themselves. Wait a minute! That's the way it is today. The only difference is we don't dare leave low earth orbit. Now back to the render. I wanted to create a new classic, the downed or fallen astronaut (Icarus). It's one of those themes that go back to the early days of sci-fi. I think it still holds up today. I know this is something I will continue to play around with in my work. The astronauts are the Apollo Maximus figure posed in DAZ Studio. I don't remember where I got the spacesuit, maybe sgshare.com. I find a lot of free stuff there. I made all of the textures in Photoshop and added them in Bryce. The helmet and other suit gear I made 100 presents in Bryce. The ship was also found on sgshare and tweaked in Wings 3d to fit my needs. I'm not that good of a modeler in Wings yet. But I'm working on it. Saturn came from the Cassini space probe. NASA Enjoy.

Fantastic work!!Love the classic,retro scifi look and the comp is very effective...this definitely has the look of a 50's scifi pulp novel cover...well done!
