Description

This picture was taken at Wisconsin Dells. The boat slowed down to wait for another boat to leave the dock. The small holes in the rocks are occupied by South American Swallows. They migrate up and summer in the Dells. I took this off the Americas Library . gov The Wisconsin Dells are dramatic rock formations found along the Wisconsin River. They were shaped by strong currents of water from melting glaciers. About 500 million years ago, this area was a lot different than it looks today. It used to be covered by shallow seas. For about 80 million years the seas flowed back and forth over the land, leaving sand on the sea bottom. Over time, the sand kept building up until it rose above the seas. The huge sand formations that rose out of the water are the tall sandstone cliffs you see today in the Wisconsin Dells. These unique cliffs can be found in only three other areas in the world, Switzerland, Germany and parts of New York. from http://www.americaslibrary.gov/cgi-bin/page.cgi/es/wi/dells_1 Thank you for looking. Thank you for all the comments on my previous posts. Tomorrow is the fair day for us, hoping to get lots of pictures. Have a great evening, Peace, Cheri

This area is so cool, shaped 500 million years ago, kinda puts our presence here as minute and minuscule,...merely a fleeting moment in comparison! We don't even so much as make a dent in the lifespan of these formations, The difference is so much that it's almost too much to even comprehend and consider. I am in awe each time I visit the area, the Dells have become world renown as the water park capital of the United States, and most of the people who visit have little or no idea what is just beyond,...the real reason the Dells became the place to go, to see these rock formations, valleys and hidden dark pathways, cut so deep that even on a ninety degree day the temp within is only maybe seventy. Sweet shot again baby!!! It was great just watching you take it all in, to have the opportunity to share it with all of your friends here makes it all that much more awesome!!
