Description

This is the final shot from Walnut Canyon. The ruins were not found until 1883. The National Park Service did not take control until 1933. This is a recreation of a Sinagua Lodge Home by the National Park Service. Sad to say, vandals had taken a toll on the original dwellings and much of the cultural materials had been removed or destroyed. Anthropologists believe that the Walnut Canyon Sinagua descendents live today among the Hopi Indians of northeast Arizona. I have to tell you that the climb up was a tough one even using the Park Service stairs. I can’t imagine having to climb up a trail, every day to tend their farmland – or the reverse to go down to the river for water. Some info from the National Park Service. This photo was scanned from a photo taken in the spring of 1996. Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous comments. Dana

Such a beautiful capture tells us a lot about the living conditions of the first inhabitants of the United States.
