Description

Ok! A month ago, the wonderful Helle (gallery here) asked if I used 'masks'. I said I didn't even know what they were! She said she had lots of 'em, and I was welcome to use them. So I downloaded a bunch, and this is the result. Disclaimer: I don't know anything about masks: So I messed around--sorry Helle! The results? My normal psychedelic mangling of anything recognizable: You should all feel right at home! (The original's a City Street: Hope you can see it.) And I added--bottom--a landscape made of dinner rolls! (She sent me pictures--what could I do? They looked delicious...) Finally, I've done a Helle-dedi before, but I gotta say: She does the most natural watercolors in the world, she draws beautifully, she does wonderful montages that run the gamut from cubist to mythic to shamanistic to just plain beautiful, she posts beautiful photos & macros of every kind & does wonderful manipulations, she experiments constantly & her joy is absolutely catching, and she's one of the finest, dearest people you could ever befriend: Ask anyone who knows her--she's the best! Her website is here, and her masks are here. Enjoy! * * * * * * I caught up with half your galleries last night (8 hours!): I'll get to the rest of you tonight! Peace to all, Mark (Photoshop.)

Just shutting things down here for awhile but this popped up or in the case of the rolls...popped over(?) before I closed up shop. This adds a whole new dimension to your color musings and I for one REALLY LIKE IT! I'll come back and look at these in considerably more detail but you are onto something nifty. Keep these coming:)))

I have been a big fan of Helle and her work for so long as I have of yours Mark, and I love this dedi you did for her. Like you she is one of the most talented and creative artists in the community and this beautiful collage is so perfect for her. Love what you did with the city street in breathing new and colorful life into it and the rolls absolutely blew me away at how exciting you made them now.

Pass the butter and let me move into that first building!1 OMG, these are awesome, as over used as that word is, I don't know what else to say!! I love how you take one simple (?) idea, then morph it into these psychedelic, surrealistic, incredible wonders. And masks, oh boy, yet another world for me to discover and explore!! These rock and so do you, Mark!!!

Mark Mark Mark. You certainly know how to use masks. Maybe not the way the programs want you to use them, but I doubt they can be used more beautiful than this. You certainly know how to use them in your own way and it is breathtakingly beautiful. I am so delighted and Proud, when I see what you did with MY mask. I love every example you did here. Makes my mask way more interesting. Thank you for using it and my buns too. A landscape. You created a landscape of them. LOL ! That is SO cool. But your words make me blush. You are way too kind. I dont deserve this and I dont know what to say, but to thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you ever so much. Big HUG !

Lovely work altough i miss a bit the masking lol...It ain't difficult once you get the principle ..black hides and white reveals so just add a mask and paint..You will discover a lot of new possibilities also another way of masking is blend if..then you can mask colors and tones..Every adjustment layer has a mask option so you can play with tones,shadows,highlights..Also with your talent it will give wonderfull results. Your work is like always unique and i love it.I work with photoshop more then 10 years so if you have any question just ask ;)Keep up the good work my dear friend x

Wow! These masks bring a whole new dimension to your work. I love what you've done here. These bring out the city dweller in your work--with all the energy, magic, and possibilities I feel whenever I arrive at a large city at night. The colors are so vibrant and I like how the third and fourth images join together with a circle, and the windows then turn into an art gallery (that's what I see--lots of art hanging on the inside of the walls). I also see a jazz dancer or musician in the bottom center, taking his hat off--welcoming us into his world. The rolls are a perfect ending for the journey, (such tasty berry colors) and what a great way to use the photos in your art. I love your inventiveness. In this landscape, it seems we've returned to the simplicity of earth, where we break bread, the memory of our visit to the city blowing in the air like salt sprinkled in the wind. (Sorry, I always see things . . . I have a lot of fun exploring your worlds). In any case, it's a beautiful heart-felt dedication both in design and in words. Another gorgeous work!

I want to say i´m astonished and i´ve to congratulate both:You and Helle:It´s a marvelous mix work!better say: a colab! It is as i see this! I see a "promenade" in the city enjoying the night: a feel of warmth:)) and in the 3rd and 4th i can see your feast! Music, lights and joy and I think i see a couple also enjoying! And it ends into dreams, with so much colour and so much enlighted...that´s what i see in the last image. You had played wonderfully with the colours and lights and we can see you had a great pleasure doing this and you have put your heart and soul here. This is marvelous Mark:)))and very creative! Art is invention and that was what you did here! And this is a wonderful gift for Helle, that i respect so much as a person and as a wonderful artist and the most important:a friend!

This is a city the way a super hero would see it. Right?? Like Spiderman, perhaps...he descends into the heart of the metropolis while his spidey-sense (many eyes, you know) enhances the lights. (see Ronnie's latest...) This makes the whole area glow with fabulous colors. The last two is what He sees when the police enter and start to flash those huge search lights around. Really - this is what I see. Dinner rolls? Seems like a good lower level for a city. Very yummy and provides a soft landing. :-)
