Description

This is day 3 of a 7 day series showing male Dragonflies from 7 different species. Petaltails are an ancient species and have only 10 species world wide. They are one of the few species that have widely separated eyes. This is the largest Dragonfly species in my area. The males only spend a day or so at any given area. I see a few every year in spring. They are very bold and I have had more than one actually fly toward me and either buzz my head or land on me. They are the only species I can hear (they make a raspy sound) when they fly normally. Their wings are very rough. Thanks to those who take the time to comment. Lee

Oh, Lee! This is a gem. I can see the ruggedness and sturdiness in this from you shot. The beauty of such an insect is so wonderful to see like this. I so enjoy seeing ancient species that have changed little over the years. Excellent shot and info.
