Description

Went out shooting yesterday looking for spots of interest in the area and found this old windmill on a hilltop with commanding views, surrounded by wheat fields bathed in some rare summer sun. I wasn't the only photographer with designs on this location and bumped into a fair few about the fields! This shot was taken just as the sun re-emerged underneath the low band of cloud near the horizon, in that 20-minute burst of light before day's end.. The mill is called Chesterton Windmill and was built sometime around 1632, possibly with assistance from an apprentice of Inigo Jones. It is a Grade I listed building and has been restored a few times over the years, although the mill itself is no longer functional. Suggestions abound that it was originally built as an observatory rather than a windmill, though this point is up for debate. This must be one of my local area's most celebrated and famous landmarks and apart from there not being many clouds I couldn't have asked for much nicer conditions for my first time visiting and photographing it... (more to come from this location probably) =) Adam

I would have thought this was shot at dawn just before the sun rises, in comparison with your latest version, in which the colours are more contrasted. The contrast being softer here conveys also more softness to the whole subject. This being said, both are splendid photographs, and thanks to the particular pov you have chosen here, we are kind of totally engulfed into this serene landscape. Superb work!
