Description
Today and tomorrow I'll post some details of the decorating band of the twin villas. Actually this one is the balcony which is also the roof of the entrance porch beneath. The statue in the corner is a lion. The lion was the symbol of the Republic of Venice as well as the Region Veneto. It comes from St. Mark's animal, that was the old, glorious Republic as well as the city of Venice's patron saint. You can see this symbol all over the Venetian sphere of influence,as faraway as Cyprus, Rhodes and Dalmatia. Here the lion has neither the Gospel (peace) nor the sword (war), because this was a private house, and the Republic didn't exist any longer, when it was built, but the animal itself remembers the region's old past. In fact, this decorative element is common on gate pillars, staircase banisters, etc.
The battle is probably an episode from the history of Venice, because there are ships in one of the scenes.

only an eye with an appreciation for history & its concrete and ephemeral qualities could capture this shot. You've captured the battle as a dream, a vision; it's amazingly beautiful in this capture. And the lion looks right into it, unassumingly—but still into it. And the bold pinks, even reflected in some of the details over the roof gutters, is beautiful behind the stark white railings. And your angle is quite expressive. The kind of shot that makes these facades sing; and your description is your usual choice of salient details and obvious passion for what you see. A beautiful vision all around.
