Description

#2 in our vacation photos - To Yellowstone and back. After traveling for hours we decide to drive the Badlands Loop. It was incredible - the perfect place to find rattlesnakes, which we did not (thankfully!). This was taken at the very edge of the park where the flat land of prairie grass thins out to show the eroded buttes you see here. This area enchanted us and I have a few more shots of the different features we saw. Hopefully can get those up this week. Thanks for the hearty welcome back from so many of you! My previous upload, located in the middle of South Dakota, for anyone who'd like to compare the terrain: thumb_1930495.jpg Jodie

Badlands is right! Ultra stellar capture, especially of the massive and rocky foreground, Jodie! Love the clarity, lighting and textures of that particular area, and a fine DOF vis-a-vis the background. Are those Chevys I see out in the distance?

Incredible to see the layered strata in the rock formations, it must have been a life enriching experience to see so many landscapes all in one trip.

a rich layered shot, not just because of the beautiful layers in the stone (as Piet points out) but because you caught 3 layers of landscape & the life in it: the rocks (with people), the stretch of long open land, and the mountains in the background...and the road which connects them all. (It's like a big ribbon between them.) I really like the shadow & lighting in front, and I love that you gave us very little sky—accentuating the endless landscape of the Badlands. (I was there, I never forgot it!) Looming & mysterious & majestic, I love the levels of capture. The hills really do seem to just 'start'. If this is just the beginning of your uploads, I can't wait to see the rest. I hope everyone sees it full size, because it's sweeping. And btw, are the two people on the rocks P & M? (Nice to have them, whoever they are: They give us the scale of these craggy formations.)
