Description

Hi, Thanks for the response on this character I am making.(For the hell of it)! As I mentioned I'd be showing some of the process for this character from scratch so here we go. In zbrush you can make shapes from zpheres and then convert your model into a mesh for sculpting on.You basically start with a zsphere(fig 1.) and then attatch more zpheres(as many as you need)to the base zsphere (fig 2) and build your object out, like a tree for example. Once you have a zsphere on top of another one you can pull it out which makes a length determined by how far you pull it.Like an arm being pulled out of a shoulder.(See Fig 2). Once you have made your zphere model you can move and scale the various zspheres and sections which is good for posing and fine tuning your model base.Fig 4. Fig 1.Zphere drawn on canvas. Fig 2.Showing beginning construction stage. Fig 3.Showing mutliple zpheres drawn off a base zsphere. Fig 3b.Showing what the model looks like converted to a workable polymesh for sculpting. Fig 4.The zphere base I made for my character. Fig 5.What it looked like coverted to a polymesh. Fig 6.Showing polygroups. At this stage you will need to divide your model to get more polygons so your sculpting will work properly. There is a divide button you press and it x4's your poly count onto the mesh. The beginning level is about 2600 polys for this model.Im now at about 6 million after my dividing alot for detail transfer to be smooth. Fig 7.Showing some brush effects. a)Mallett brush. b)Ram brush. c)Clay brush. d)Standard brush. e)Inflate brush. f)Layer brush. g)Expand brush. h)Rake brush. i)Cut brush. There are many more brushes in zbrush but I normally use these ones. You can set heights, depths, scale etc on each brush. Fig 8.Sphere decorated with various brushes and using symetery. The fine details on the main character are done by using alphas. You basically drag out the detail over your mesh at the depth or height you want.Zbrush will wrap it straight onto your model.Skin pores and fine details etc are done this way.Its great!! Ok,so thats it.Ive probally just confused a very simple explination as Im not very good at tutorials. If you all would like to come round(bring a bottle)I'll show you what Im doing ha ha.. Any questions ? Email me : calum5@calum5.com Hope that was some sort of insight and help. I'll do my best to catch what I can:) Bye cal Ps Vampire looks better as a demon with this horn test? What do you think.:)

The horns add a whole new dimension and tends to pull the center of attention higher up making the head the focus more so than the body. Though the body is exactly perfect for that head... long and drawn out is the way to go.. I love all the indentions and extrusions you make to boost the details like on the hands and abdomen.. as I have always said I am intrigued by the looks that your creations have and am surprised that your talent has not pulled you farther up the artistic ladder to some real recognition in this field.. Once again.. MAGNIFICENT my friend....

Good one Cal, kool little WIP and result, I think with the three fingered hand that your character does fit the Demon mold better, that said it could also be a Demon-Vampire hy-brid ! Well done & ~Cheers~

Cal, I think that your tutorial was on point. A very simple explanation of a program that always seemed to me so difficult. Since never investigating Zbrush on my own left me ignorant. You just enlightened me. Now the wheels are spinning again. You know, heavy salivation like when I discovered Poser. Now you're gonna make me go out and spend more money I don't have. Bad boy Cal. Bad boy. LOL. Can't wait to see the next tutorial. BTW, I think the character is comming along well. I've read some of the suggestions of other artists on the development of your character. They all seem to want to stick with the norm of what determines the difference between a demon and a vampire. Well your work is not the norm. You are an artist of great talents so outside the norm that whatever you express will be accepted. The bottom line is to just keep doing your thing, the way you know how. Peace. Eric
