Description

Place: My room. Time: 1.00 o'clock last night. When I saw all the heaps of the stuff I had NOT yet discarded on my bed, I SHOUTED! While I put the items on the floor, in order to have a place where to sleep, to begin this morning again, I thought of a saying in the Neapolitan dialect. 'Fate ammuina!' Make the move! it's not translatable into Italian; it comes from the Spanish amuinhar, 'make the move'. According to the popular knowledge, it was used in the slang of the Navy of the Kingdom of Two Sicilies, before the birth of Italy. When the king or the admirals came to visit the ships, the sailors made the ammuina (move) that is, those on port went to starboard, those on the bow, to the stern, those on the deck to the lower decks, or on the masts, and viceversa. All with the illusion of doing a purposeful task. Now it's used to mean the confusion of moving everything to accomplish nothing, when they speak of reforming the public administration. It's the world of our paper pushers who are masters in making the move. BTW I'm still in the middle of the wade. Thank you for your kind comments.

I can imagine the scene : your bed and you shouting out loud ! I didn't know about this idiom so, thanks for the explanation ! I guess we can use it for our politicians in France too :-DDD Great image !

What a useful word! When I was teaching, I swear some of my superiors did that all the time, footling round with clipboards and looking important. And the pic is great!

This is exceptional. The depth, the set up, the moment itself...all stellar. When I clean out, I have one designated spot to put everything I am tossing... the pile grows to mammoth proportions, towering over me in the corner of the back yard until I start to worry I cannot afford to hire someone to haul it all away! At the end of each year, sometime in October, I finally make arrangements for it to be picked up and taken from my sight before I break down and start picking through it to save this bit or that bit because I have "second thoughts." :-)

Your descriptive and this picture really rocks! I am roflmao, since I can relate to everything you have stated, and I can almost hear the sea lion barking orders to 'make the move'! Excellent! Truly EXCELLENT!
