Description

This is the water-side view of the Mukilteo Lighthouse. I was standing on the upper deck of the ferry, which accounts for the point of view. It's one of those totally ordinary things I see all the time and never think to take a picture of! The Mukilteo Lighthouse was built in 1906, and there are 36 steps to the top. The higher the light, the farther away it can be seen. If memory serves, the Mukilteo light can be seen from a distance of twelve miles, but in an area like Puget Sound, that's plenty! For those of you who are in love with lighthouses, you can learn more about the Mukilteo Lighthouse HERE The lighthouse runs a fourth order Fresnel lens, and there's another fourth order in the museum (the only Fresnels I've ever seen in person). As a light and glass junkie, I think a Fresnel lens is about the most beautiful thing in the world.

Everything about a light house is passionate and romantic. I think they stir the sea going side of people even if the are land lovers like me. beautiful capture

I've been on this ferry a few times now and I do NOT remember ever seeing this. It's gorgeous and you caught it beautifully. There's an old lighthouse at the Ferndale Fairgrounds and I think it's got some history as well, guess I better look into it in case there's yet another Fresnel to be captured for you!!

So pristine! Stellar foreground clarity, lighting and textures contrasted against the distant mist of the background.

Lovely image, makes me homesick having grown up on the Kitsap Peninsula. Yeppers, a transplanted "West Sounder" I am, having grown up in Bremerton.

Beautifully capture! This is postcard perfect. What I love about this picture is the wake in the background. You can follow it and in the middle left you see the can just catch the tail end of a ferry or boat!

a beautiful balanced vision, the planes are so clear, the light is so clear, the rooftop and railing-top (under the light) are so simply aligned with the water—it's got a bevy of wonderful photography music. And the light pierces into that diffuse pure sky. So much about this I love. And the shadows at bottom open up into the luscious whites of that house. Beautiful lens-music (camera lens) while it captures another kind of lens-music: I know nothing of Fresnel, but now I want to learn. (You mentioned it in Marilyn's gallery too, and all I could come up with was Fresnel, California.) (Fresno??? Come on, it's not that bad!) Beautiful piece, I'm sold; and I'll be there this weekend!

This lighthouse has such a different look to it than a lot I've previously seen. It's so quaint, and the surrounding buildings appear to be home to the light keeper. Around here we just have the tower or light house itself, more just a place of work, standing in stark contrast to all around, a lone sentinel, standing steadfast through all. I like this one a lot, it's sooo much more. Beautiful shot, I knew Cheri would just love this!! Awesome share M'lady.
