Description
July 2009. You can still see the missing section of the Navarre Beach Pier on the horizon due to the devastation from Hurricane Ivan which made landfall almost 60 miles to the west back in September 2004.
Santa Rosa Island, where Navarre Beach is located, will never be the same in my lifetime. Ivan's 5-year anniversary, September 16, is just over 3 weeks away from today.

As a long time resident of pcola I can attest tothe fact that this area will never be the same. Having lived here since 1958 I have watched this beautiful area be systematically destroyed by over developement walking hand in hand with the desire to make the big buck at the expense of the environment. What used to be a landscape of sugarwhite dunes, topped by natural vegitation is now an area that's largely as flat as a board. It takes at least a century to build up a natural dune system...so yes,it's not going to happen in our lifetime. Phrank you should download an older pic to show folks the contrast of then and now...I know you got them...I was with you when you took some of them back in the early 80's
