Description
"WIP" that title will get their attention! Nobody has ever used that before!
Designed and authorized before the HMS Dreadnought the USS South Carolina was completed after the Drednought. If it had been completed ahead of the British ship would the subsequent classes be called "Carolinas"? I rather like the British name, but I digress.
The scene is W. Cramp and Sons Shipbuilding Cassion in Philidelphia where the South Carolina is presently being built. You'll note that the...
"Pardon me, I hate to interupt, but are you the person in charge here?"
"Who are you?"
"why I'm the OSHA inspector from the federal government."
"The what?"
"I'm the OSHA Inspector."
"Yeah, I got that, but what's the heck is an osha Inspector and further what's an osha?"
"Thats 'OSHA', Occupational Safety and Health Administartion."
"That's neat but what's that got to do with me?"
"Well, I'm from the federal government and we're here to help you with your problems. I have a rather large list of violations of the 'Act" and I'm here to see you about them."
"Look I don't have time for this. As it is I have troubles keeping a full work crew on this project as congress isn't in any hurry to fund this ship and the British are building their own and right smartly at that!"
"Well, I suppose the funding has been spent elsewhere. Like the five Gulfstream G550s that congress has ordered."
"The five what"?
"Gulfstream G550s."
"Look you're not making any sense here. Why would congress order five... what? How in the holy heck can you order five Gulfstreams? How does anyone order that much water and what would they do with it when they got it?"
"Not THE Gulfstream, but five jets."
"Jets? What's a jet?"
"Look I don't have time for this, look it up on your computer on the web."
"The web? What's the web and what's a computer."
"The WEB, you know World Wide Web."
"The what?"
"Oh I forgot Al Gore hasen't even been born yet. The web won't be invented for some time."
"Look I have work to do."
PFFFFT
"Excuse me but there seems to be a mixup here."
"Who are you?"
I'm the OSPER Enterprises time space monitor and there seems to be a mixup here. Inspector, you're in the wrong place and Uh time."
"Look, I have pages of violations here just starting with stuff like 'no hard hats or even special colored hard hats for formen, safety rails, safety flagging, ....."
"I sorry we don't have time for this and the space for this is running out, but you have to go." PFFFFT
"What happened, where did he go?"
"Let's just say, he was in the wrong place."
"Well good riddance. The armor is arriving this week and I have to get the port holes placed before it arrives. Now if you'll excuse me."
"No problem, I'll be taking my leave."
"Hey before you leave, about this gulfstream thing, and jets. What about those?"
"Don't worry about it. They're just figures of speech that don't mean anything, now." PFFFFT
Credits
The model is really in a state of "WIP" done in Wings 3D. Everything was done or modified in Wings.
The crane started life as a freebie shipboard crane done by Sir Mac Man over at DAZ.
The truck and steam tractor came off the WEB but I lost the originals in a couple of computer changes so if you were the original builder. Thanks and drop me a line and I'll credit you.
Thanks for the looks and any comments, good and er, um, eh, uh,......bad (yes those too). :)

Can one really build a ship of the line of that era and never credit Hotchkiss? Forget Parrott and Dahlgren one must be a bit quicker with the breeches. The crane is the thing here. Shoot through masts? Now there was redundancy that could make a survivability study perk up.

A fantastic render.

Lot of work gone into this scene. Not so sure Health and Safety was such a big consideration in those days. The Dreadnoughts were impressive ships.

I was on the USS South Carolina once when I was a kid. Use to go to North Carolin every summer for two weeks and beg that we go to SC cause I loved all things navy and they use to show that ship on a TV add to get people to come visit that state. Beautiful ship Beautiful render in progress but its done if you as me. Bravo!
