This is my first attempt at shading and lighting. I would greatly appreciate feedback. Thanks

Only kitty's bowl is in focus. However the overall perspective on this shot is very good. The Soft Focus effect is set way to high--Depth of Field is to short. I suspect that this was caused when you attempted to line up the background matte. (And well done on that front to - not many beginners even attempt this type of composit) - Did you Rotoscope this, or drop it in as a map? - Tip for future work like this is to drop the matte/roto out at the final render and comp the whole lot is Photoshop or similar application and do a little post work. Lighting work is also very good -
