Description

Day 8 of my holiday saw us strolling along the baltic coast at Beckholmen. There is a small area here which contains three dry docks of varying size. The two smaller ones are jointly owned and used by groups of the ferry and tour boat owners. The third is massive and takes some of the larger cruise ships and is commercially run. A few years ago, an artist was commissioned to do some works around Stockholm. One of them was the 'conversion' of two cranes by the largest dry dock into giraffes. They look totally bizarre in-situ but, nonetheless, are most striking. Both are still in use for their primary function. ---------------------------------------------- Original Photograph 29-Jul-2009
